España finaliza cuarta en el Torneo de Nis—SRB
18/07/2015 - España ha finalizado cuarta en el prestigioso Torneo Internacional Masculino de Nis—Serbia, donde han competido algunas de las mejores selecciones del mundo. Los hombres de Gabi Hernández han jugado esta mañana ante los anfitriones serbios y a punto han estado de dar la sorpresa tras ir ganando buena parte del partido para caer finalmente por 10—9. En suma, buen test al igual que Portugalete y Budapest en el camino de preparación para los Campeonatos de Europa Belgrado 2016.
La Selección española comenzó el encuentro con una concentración máxima sabiendo que estos son los partidos importantes, frente a las mejores potencias del globo, para calibrar el estatus y las aspiraciones futuras. De hecho, ¡Serbia! y en su casa con su equipo de gala solo fue capaz de hacer un gol en nuestra portería en los 16 primeros minutos. El 1-4 en el marcador al descanso (parciales de 0-1 y 1-3) era producto de la seriedad con la que España afrontaba el partido.
La segunda parte, desgraciadamente, iba a pasar factura ante un rival tan herido en su orgullo y resurgió la Serbia ofensiva de siempre. Con 5-3 recortó distancias en el tercero (6-7), algo mucho más normal, para luego en el último cuarto decidir la contienda (4-2) por 10-9. Gran partido, en todo caso de España en la primera mitad con Albert Español como máximo goleador visitante y del encuentro con 3 tantos.

Montenegro wins Nis tournament on penalties
Montenegro claimed victory at the strong 8-nation tournament in Nis, Serbia on Saturday beating Greece in the final for the 2nd time in a week, this time on penalties 12-10. The game was levelled 8-8 after regulation but the Montenegrins proved to have the better of the Greek in the following shootout. Aleksandar Ivovic, Vjekoslav Paskovic, Darko Brguljan and Mladjan Janovic all hit their penalty shot attempts while Greece missed twice including one save by Montenegrin goalkeeper Zdravko Radic. The Montenegrins earlier beat Greece 9-7 during a group play meeting on Thursday. Hosts Serbia took third place holding off Spain overcoming a 4-1 deficit at half-time to win 9-10. 5th place went to Romania who won another close match-up topping Germany 8-9. Finally Russia finished in 7th place in the early morning on Saturday beating China 15-8 behind 4 goals from Konstantin Stepanyuk.
All teams can now finalise their preparation for the 2015 World Championships in Kazan as the final selections will be announced and most teams will travel to the Tatarstan capital around Wednesday or Thursday. The water polo tournament kicks off Sunday with a women's day, followed by the opening day for the men on Monday.

Greece beats Serbia to set up final vs. Montenegro
The final of the 8-nation tournament in Nis, Serbia will see a re-match between Montenegro and Greece who already met in the group stage on Thursday. Both won their semifinal on Friday with Greece edging hosts Serbia after penalties 9-12. Montenegro overcame a 7-5 half-time deficit to beat Spain 8-10. Especially the loss for the recent World League champion Serbian team made headlines. They seemingly comfortable led 6-3 early in the third period before Greece took over turning things around completely on a 4-0 run. It needed veteran centre-forward Slobodan Nikic to scoring the equaliser with just under a minute remaining. In the shootout series though Greece got their result as they stayed perfect in 4 attempts while Andrija Prlainovic and Milan Aleksic saw theirs saved so the Greek clinched a nice win ahead of the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, to start in just over a week time. First up however they get another shot in beating Montenegro, now in the grand final. The Montenegrins defeated Greece 7-9 on Thursday.

A busy second day of the 8-nation tournament currently underway in Nis, Serbia on Thursday saw Germany and Romania posting their first wins. Montenegro meanwhile added a 2nd triumph by holding off Greece 7-9. Vjekoslav Paskovic and Aleksandar Ivovic led the Montenegrin offence scoring two goals each. In the day's first match-up Germany topped China 10-12 to gain their first victory. Romania managed to beat 2015 World Championships hosts Russia 8-11 behind 4 goals from Mihnea Gheorghe while captain Cosmin Radu added 3 for the Romanians. Home side Serbia were in action against Spain who proved to be missed at the upcoming World Championships in Kazan. With the left-handed tandem of Gonzalo Echenique and Blai Mallarach in the lead, Spain made life hard for the Serbs who only in the final period, thanks to consecutive goals by Dusko Pijetlovic and Filipovic, could down the Spanish team 11-9. Day 2 continues later in the afternoon on Thursday.In the evening session it became clear that Serbia and Montenegro, drawn together in group D of the upcoming World Championships, at this ocassion won their groups remaining unbeaten. Tournament hosts Serbia held off Romania 9-6 while Montenegro marched on, not to be endangered by Germany in the session's first match: 8-14. In the semifinals both powerhouses are joined by Greece and Spain who also noted victories on Thursday evening. Greece in a bit more convincing way although Spain's win was yet another confirmation of their nice form. Greece ran away from China in the second period and never looked back as Ioannis Fountoulis was unstoppable scoring 5 goals in the 6-14 win for the Greek squad. Spain battled out a close contest with Russia but finished on top against the team they have met multiple times over the past couple of weeks: 12-11. Now on Friday the Spaniards will face Montenegro in the semifinals while Serbia takes on Greece in another nice match-up and excellent preparation to the Kazan championships, to start in just over a week time.

Serbia holds off Russia on Nis tournament day 1
On opening day of the 8-nation tournament in the Serbian city of Nis, on Wednesday, the 2015 World Championships contenders made no mistake and kicked off by winning. Greece was up first and ran away from Germany already in the first half in what would went on to be a 14-6 final score. Even more domination was on display the following match-up as Montenegro made the difference against China in the third period, won 6-0, to post a 17-8 victory. Also among the winners was Spain who continued their recent nice results, despite not having qualified for the Kazan World Championships, by beating Romania 6-10 behind 4 goals from left-hander newcomer Gonzalo Echenique. Meanwhile in the day's final match-up Serbia faced a familiar opponent in Russia, who they played multiple times recently. And again the World Championships hosts could not force an upset. With Filip Filipovic and Andrija Prlainovic (3 goals each) the Serbs took command in the third quarter and that proved enough to record a 12-9 win. Nis: España cae en semifinales ante Montenegro
17/07/2015 - Derrota de España en la primera semifinal del Torneo Internacional de Nis (Serbia) ante Montenegro por 8—10 (3—4, 4—1, 0—3 y 1—2) en un encuentro con dos caras y donde los nuestros, pese a finalizar el primera cuarto uno abajo (3—4), se sobrepusieron en un segundo cuarto espectacular que dejaba a los de Gabi Hernández con dos goles de ventaja al descanso (7—5). En la reanudación todo cambió y los montenegrinos devolvieron el parcial con un 0—3 que a la postre sería decisivo.
Chalo Echenique fue el hombre más acertado cara a la puerta balcánica, con 4 tantos, mientras que por el rival fue Da. Brguljan con 3 goles. Otros resultados: Alemania-Rusia 8-5; China-Rumanía 9-11.

Nis: España bate a Rusia antes de los cruces
16/07/2015 - Maratón de jueves para la Selección española masculina en el Torneo Internacional de Nis. Si por la mañana sucumbía por 11—9 frente a los anfitriones serbios, esta tarde se imponía a Rusia por 12—11 (5—2, 3—3, 2—3, 2—3) en un partido extraño, donde los de Gabi Aguilar se fueron en el marcador 5—2 y aguantaron la primera parte (8—5) para sufrir en los últimos 16 minutos con dos parciales en contra, notándose dos partidos internacionales de mucha exigencia física. Son segundos de grupo.
España ya está en semifinales y se enfrentará este viernes -a partir de las 18.40 hora local- por un puesto en la final del sábado a la imbatida Montenegro.

Nis: España cae 11—9 ante la anfitriona Serbia
16/07/2015 - Derrota ajustada de la Selección masculina española en la segunda jornada del Torneo Internacional de Nis ante la potente anfitriona Serbia por 11—9 (3—1, 1—2, 5—5 y 2—1) en un partido en el que estaba en juego el liderato del grupo y que finalmente se decantó en favor de los locales. España, que tuvo en Echenique y Mallarach a sus mejores estiletes ofensivos, se jugará esta tarde su posición de grupo en su tercer encuentro frente a Rusia.
Serbioa no quería sorpresas, y menos ante su público. Es una selección espectacular que tira de orgullo y que no da tregua ni en los amistosos. Salieron fuertes (3-1) y España aguantó el tipo como pudo. Y, lejos de arrugarse, se llevó el segundo parcial con 1-2 poniendo la igualdad en el marcador.
El tercer cuarto desató iuna tormenta de goles en ambas porterías. Nada menos que 5 a 5 y un apretado 9-8 a falta de 8 minutos.

Nis: España vence a Rumanía en el debut
15/07/2015 - La Selección española masculina se ha impuesto a Rumanía por 6—10 en la primera jornada del prestigioso Torneo Internacional de Nis (Serbia). Los hombres de Gabi Hernández fueron superiores a un equipo siempre combativo, encarrilando el partido en la primera mitad del choque con dos parciales (1—2 y 1—3) que presagiaban éxito. Después de un tercer cuarto igualado (1—1), en el último se desató un gran intercambio de goles (3—4) que también favoreció a los nuestros hasta el final.
Gonzalo Echenique, con 4 goles, y Víctor Gutiérrez y Xavi García (con 2 cada uno), fueron los máximos goleadores españoles del choque, por los 3 tantos del rumano Negreanu. En cuanto al resto de la jornada, al cierre de estas líneas, esta deparó los siguientes resultados: Grecia- Alemania 14-6 y Montenegro-China 17-8.
Este jueves, España jugará dos exigentes encuentros para cerrar su grupo antes de los cruces, ante la anfitriona Serbia (11.40h) y frente a Rusia (18.40h).

14/07/2015 - La Selección Española absoluta masculina está presente en Serbia, del 15 al 18 de julio, para disputar el prestigioso Torneo Internacional de Serbia junto a las selecciones de Montenegro, Rusia, Rumanía, Grecia, Alemania, China y los anfitriones serbios divididas en dos grupos de competición. Los hombres de Gabi Hernández debutan el miércoles ante Rumanía (18.40), y el jueves lo harán frente a Serbia (11.40) y Rusia antes de los cruces finales con los países del otro grupo en liza.
