Montenegrin CUP

Jadran secures fifth straight Montenegrin cup
By: Tim Hartog Men
Jadran Herceg Novi have claimed the Montenegrin cup for the fifth time in succession on Monday. In leg 2 of the finals against Budva, this time playing at home, Jadran posted a solid 10-5 victory, more than enough for the overall victory after their big 5-17 defeat in Budva last Saturday. Miroslav Randic again was on target scoring 3 goals on Monday for the winners, as did team-mate Stefan Pjesivac. Jadran Herceg Novi won the Montenegrin cup in 2006 and 2007, followed by 2 years in which Budva claimed the trophy. In the last 4 seasons though Jadran proved the dominant force in the cup tournament. Montenegrin cup

Italy, Montenegro notch wins in penultimate round
By: Tim Hartog National Teams, World League
In the penultimate round of the men's World League preliminary phase in Europe both group C contenders Italy and Montenegro made no mistake. The respective 2nd and 3rd seeds consolidated the positions in the group beating Turkey and France in solid performances. Italy hosted Turkey in Siracusa and wasted little time displaying their intentions early on as Stefano Luongo and his 4 goals led the home team to a 17-6 victory. Luongo saw teammates Francesco di Fulvio, Andrea Fondelli and Valentino Gallo neeting 3 each to boost the score even more. Meanwhile in Nancy, France the home side, in their final game of the campaign took on last year's World League bronze medal winners Montenegro who grabbed an early 0-3 lead and secured their win in the second half. Aleksandar Ivovic (pictured) was on target once again scoring 5 goals while Vjekoslav Paskovic and Darko Brguljan added 3 apiece. The 10th and final round will be played on Tuesday 14 April when the Super Final contenders, altough more or less decided, will be confirmed. Hosts Italy are already sure to be present in Bergamo from 23-28 June.FINA Men's World League 2014-2015

Jadran Herceg Novi after shootout claims third straight Montenegrin cup
Waterpoloworld | | | Monday 23 December 2013, 19:41 | | | Tim Hartog |
Jadran Herceg Novi looked favorite to defend their Montenegrin cup title after a 12-10 win at home on Saturday with just leg 2 in Kotor scheduled. But things turned out different on Monday. The home team on two occasions got up a decisive 3 goals (5-2 and 6-3), in between even having a chance on man-up for the 6-2 lead, eventually 'just' won game 2 of the finals 6-4 to force a penalty shootout. In that series Jadran-goalie Slaven Kandić, after already blocking a Nikola Murišić penalty shot in regulation, emerged as game winner saving the attempts from Matija Brguljan and Branko Lučić to deliver the Vladimir Gojkovic-coached side their third straight national cup victory with a final score of 7-8. A bitter defeat for Primorac who were so close but lost their third straight final after falling to Jadran in last year's cup final, also at home, and to Budva in the national championship play-offs.

Jadran takes first step towards Montenegrin cup
Waterpoloworld | | | Sunday 22 December 2013, 20:51 | | | Tim Hartog |
Jadran Herceg Novi looks to be well underway to successfully defend their Montenegrin cup title after beating rivals Primorac 12-10 in the first of two finals games on Saturday. The game was tied three times (1-1, 8-8 and 10-10) before consecutive goals by Luka Sekulić and Stefan Vidović decided the outcome in favour of the home side in the city of Herceg Novi. Primorac tried to reduce the deficit to just one goal in the final offensive possession of the game but a final attempt from Matije Brguljan was saved by Jadran-goalie Slaven Kandić. Jadran was constantly in the lead but never got away more than two goals from their opponents. Left-hander Sekulic once again earned top scoring honours as he netted four shots. Primorac can try to turn things around at home in Kotor on Monday.
