España encaja ante Gran Bretaña su primera derrota de la temporada (Mundo Deportivo)

Redacción deportes, 22 abr (EFE).- La selección española femenina de waterpolo, que ya está clasificada para la Superfinal de China, que se disputará en junio. encajó hoy su primera derrota en la Liga Mundial al perder en la última jornada de la fase regular por 9-7 ante la de Gran Bretaña en Manchester.

En un partido con hasta 25 expulsiones (13 que favorecieron a las británicas y 12 a las españolas), España pagó caro su falta de acierto precisamente en ese tipo de acciones, informa la federación nacional de natación.

En los primeros dos cuartos España no supo aprovechar los momentos en los que estuvo en superioridad ante las británicas, que, tras adelantarse al final del primero capítulo, supo aumentar su renta hasta el 4-1 con que se llegó al descanso.

España reaccionó en la reanudación con un tanto de Anni Espar de penalti y otro de Ona Meseguer que situó el marcador en 4-3 para las locales.

Chiara Gibson firmó el 5-3 y el 6-4, y Maica Garcia y Lorena Miranda marcaron poner el tanteador en 5-4 y 6-5. Una postrera acción en superioridad convertida por Lisa Gibson elevó el resultado hasta el 7-5.

España sí aprovechó sus posteriores superioridades para lograr el empate 7-7 al inicio del último parcial, pero un penalti forzado por Angie Winstanley-Smith le costó a las españolas el 8-7 de Chiara Gibson y la expulsión por tarjeta roja del técnico, Miki Oca.

Un nueva acción sancionada con lanzamiento desde cinco metros supuso el definitivo 9-7, anotado por Chloe Wilcox a 1:53 minutos del final.

España lo intentó en los minutos finales, pero una gran parada de la meta británica mantuvo a las locales con esos dos goles de renta para sumar su primer triunfo en la fase regular.

The British Gas GBR Women’s Water Polo team pulled off the best result in their history by stunning world champions Spain in their final 2014 FINA World League match in Manchester.

It was an emotional night for the British women; their international future uncertain after the unexpected withdrawal of UK Sport funding two months ago.

"We’ve been through so much over the last three or four months. It’s been horrific," -Angie Winstanley-Smith

But the Brits – who came into the match on the back of winning gold as team England at the Commonwealth Championships in Aberdeen earlier this month – were relentless as they out-worked their celebrated opponents for a deserved 9-7 (1-0, 3-1, 3-4, 2-2) victory.

Spain had gone unbeaten throughout their World League campaign, including a 13-5 victory over GB in January, and had no intention of taking their foot off the pedal in their final match with 11 of their 13 world champions on show in Manchester.

But the Spanish couldn’t match the intensity or endeavor of their hosts, trailing for the majority of the match, pulling level in the final quarter but then falling short in the final minutes.

And Angie Winstanley-Smith, who played for the Brits at the London 2012 Olympics, admits the performance was a poignant result of the hard work the team have put in over the past decade.

“You can see how we celebrated, that was like a final for us,” said Winstanley Smith, who helped the Brits qualify for their second consecutive European Championships earlier this year.

“We’ve been through so much over the last three or four months. It’s been horrific. We’ve had to look at our lives totally differently and to come away with a result like that shows you the strength we have and also the strength of character we have. We’re not just a water polo team. We’re a family.

“Everyone left everything they have in the pool tonight. Wilco [Chloe Wilcox] was cramping up in that last quarter but she kept going until the end. Water polo is a team game because not one action comes without three or four people.

“The Commonwealth Championships really got us going on a positive wave and we’ve got good momentum now on to Europeans in the summer.

“We’ve got a shared passion to show UK Sport that they’ve made a mistake. We’re a good team and we can show what a team game brings to Great Britain and to young people and how important team games are at the Olympics."

he Brits were on the front foot from the outset with Barcelona-born Ciara Gibson-Byrne bagging her first of four goals and the only score in a tight opening quarter.

The home side established a three goal lead in the second period as Kathryn Fowler scored from the pit on man-up before Manchester local Ella Chadderton added another two goals to put the crowd in raptures.

After a dressing down at half-time, the Spanish fought back in the third quarter but the Brits kept their noses in front throughout as Gibson-Byrne scored twice and Lisa Gibson found the net with 0.1 second left on the clock.

The world champions drew level early in the final quarter with two quick-fire goals to pull the game back to 7-7 but the Brits endured as Winstanley-Smith won two penalties which Gibson-Byrne and Wilcox dispatched to secure a famous victory.

The Brits will travel to their second consecutive European Championships in Budapest in July, having finished seventh in Eindhoven two years ago.

Με νίκη ολοκλήρωσε η Εθνική των Γυναικών τη συμμετοχή στη προκριματική φάση του Β΄ Ομίλου της Ευρώπης, μια και κέρδισε με 8-10 την Ουγγαρία στο «σπίτι» της, στην πόλη Σεκεσφεχέρβαρ.

Αυτή η νίκη έχει μεγάλη σημασία γιατί έρχεται το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα της Βουδαπέστης, τον προσεχή Ιούλιο.

Πρώτη σκόρερ για την Εθνική μας ήταν η Χριστίνα Τσουκαλά (τρία γκολ).

ESP,ITA y RUS, equipos europeos en la Superfinal (RFEN)

23/04/2014 - España, Italia y Rusia serán los equipos europeos en la Superfinal de Kunshan, China, que se jugará del 10 al 15 de junio. La Selección española y la italiana avanzan como líderes de sus respectivos grupos y sumando nueve puntos, mientras que la Rusa progresa como mejor segunda clasificada tras derrotar en el average goleador a Grecia (54—48), que ayer se impuso a Hungría por 10—8. El Torneo Intercontinental de Riverside definirá los cuatro rivales de los europeos y de China.

In the final day of action in the women's World League preliminary round in Europe it was Greece who took a big 8-10 win from Hungary finishing their campaign on a positive note and second place in group B. All effort was not enough to get the Greek women into the Super Final though as the goal difference with group A's second ranked Russia still is in the world's number four favour as they grab the final Super Final spot out of Europe. But a strong second-half performance by Greece in their match-up with Hungary saw the 2011 world champs turning the game around from traiing 6-5 at half-time to winning by two. Another side who closed out their campaign on a positive note was Great Britain. Although 'a positive note' is perhaps not enough to describe their best result ever on the international stage. In Manchester, in front of the home crowd, reiging world champions Spain were defeated 9-7 in a performance that does not only serve as great finish of the World League preliminaries but also as a strong response to the recent blow the team received when learning of the fund withdrawal by UK Sport last month. The home side took a big 4-1 lead at half-time but saw Spain making a comeback to even tie the game at 7-7 after a Jennifer Pareja goal in the fourth quarter. But consecutive goals by standout Ciara Gibson Byrne (4 total) and Chloe Wilcox, both from the penalty spot and drawn by Angie Winstanley-Smith, secured the sensational victory for the Brits. In May, Riverside, Southern California (USA) will host the first-ever FINA Intercontinental Tournament. The event will qualify four teams for the women's Super Final, and brings together some of the world's top teams, including 2012 Olympic gold medallist USA, 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Australia, 2013 World League winner China and 2016 Olympic Games host Brazil.

Women's World League European campaign finishes 

on high note (FINA)

In the last round of the women's World League preliminaries in Europe, held on April 22, visiting Greece defeated Hungary 10-8 in Szekesfehervar to take second in Group B but the win was not enough for the 2011 World champions to earn a berth for the Super Final as Group A's second-seed Russia enjoyed a greater goal average. Russia thus joins Italy and Spain as European qualifiers for the Super Final.

In an intense match-up, Great Britain proved tremendous against an unchallenged Iberian squad, stunning the reigning World champions 9-7 in front of the home crowd in Manchester.

Meanwhile, the women's teams of Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Venezuela and USA are gearing up for the first-ever FINA Intercontinental Tournament, taking place in Riverside (USA) on May 19-25. The event will qualify four teams for the women's Super Final to be played in Kunshan (CHN) on June 10-15.

Derrota de España en Manchester (9—7) (RFEN)

22/04/2014 - La Selección Femenina ha despedido la fase regular de la Liga Mundial de Waterpolo con derrota ante Gran Bretaña en Manchester (9—7). En un partido con 25 expulsiones (13 a favor de las británicas y 12 para el conjunto español), España ha pagado caro su falta de acierto precisamente en este tipo de acciones para encajar su primer partido perdido de la temporada.

El partido de hoy ha tenido dos caras para la Selección. En los primeros dos cuartos, la falta de acierto en las jugadas de superioridad han dado ventaja a Inglaterra, que tras avanzarse por 1-0 al fin del primero, han estirado su margen hasta el 4-1 con que se ha llegado al descanso.

La reacción ha llegado en la reanudación, con un tanto de Anni Espar de penalti y de Ona Meseguer que ha puesto a las nuestras a un tanto del equilibrio. Desde este punto, España y Gran Bretaña han iniciado un intercambio de goles: Chiara Gibson ha firmado el 5-3 y el 6-4; y Maica Garcia y Lorena Miranda han resituado a las nuestras a un tanto con los respectivos 5-4 y 6-5. Y cuando todo apuntaba al fin del tercer período con este marcador, una postrera acción de superioridad convertida por Lisa Gibson ha elevado el 7-5 con el reloj rozando el cero.

Dos acciones en superioridad consecutivas han dado a España la igualada a siete goles en los compases iniciales del cuarto decisivo. Sin embargo, un penalti forzado por Angie Winstanley-Smith le ha costado a las nuestras el 8-7 de Chiara Gibson a 2:43 y la expulsión por tarjeta roja de Miki Oca. Poco después, una nueva acción sancionada con lanzamiento desde cinco metros ha puesto el 9-7, anotado por Chloe Wilcox con 1:53 restante en el reloj. España lo ha intentado en los minutos finales, pero una gran parada de la meta británica ha mantenido el +2 favorable a las locales en el minuto final. La selecció estatal ha perdut el primer partit de la temporada contra la selecció de Gran Bretanya en l'últim partit de la World League. L'encontre va acabar amb un 9 a 7 per les angleses. Aquesta derrota, però, és esportivament intrascendent ja que les noies de Miki Oca ja estan classificades per la Super Final que es jugarà del 10 al 15 de juny a Kushan, Xina.

La selecció jugarà aquesta Super Fina amb altres equips europeus com Itàlia i Rússia.

Who will take the third and final World League Super Final spot from Europe? Despite still controlling their own destiny both Hungary and Greece are up for a fierce task qualifying for the World League Super Final with just the final preliminary round game up ahead on Tuesday night. When Hungary hosts the 2011 world champions both teams know in the current situation group A's Russia is the favorite to secure qualification with the final eight in China in June and they've already completed their program in these preliminaries. After two big wins over Great Britain the goal difference looks comfortable with +7. For either Hungary or Greece only a win will count and preferably with clear margin. Greece won the teams first match-up on day 3 in Athens 14-11 so are enjoying a little advantage there. But Hungary proved to be resilliant topping reigning European champions and group winners Italy 15-12 in a convincing performance in Budapest last March on day 5. In the second game to be played Great Britain will be looking to close off their World League campaign on a positive note in front of their home crowd when they play world champions Spain in Manchester.

GBR—ESP, último choque antes de la Superfinal (RFEN)

21/04/2014 - La Selección Femenina puso ayer el cierre a las vacaciones de Semana Santa y ha viajado este mediodía hacia Manchester para despedir la fase regular de la Liga Mundial ante Gran Bretaña. Con el billete para la Superfinal de China ya en el bolsillo, Miki Oca podrá aprovechar el encuentro para hacer todo tipo de pruebas antes del primer gran reto deportivo de la temporada. El partido se disputará mañana martes a las 19:30h (las 18:30h en España).

España sigue trabajando de cara al verano. Miki Oca ha viajado junto a sus 13 jugadoras elegidas y su staff técnico a Manchester para medirse a Gran Bretaña en el último encuentro regular previo a la Superfinal. Las españolas, ya con el billete para China matemáticamente en el bolsillo, se impusieron en la ida por 13-5 en un partido disputado en Horta, Barcelona. El conjunto británico busca todavía su primera victoria en la fase regular tras caer con Rusia por 9-12 y 20-13.

El Gran Bretaña-España de mañana a las 19:30h estará arbitrado por los colegiadosGyorgy Kun, de Hungría, y Jozef Zucha, de Eslovaquia. Gianni Lonzi actuará como delegado FINA.
