Primorje wins third straight Croatian cup
By: Tim Hartog Men
Primorje have claimed a third straight Croatian cup trophy on Sunday beating Mladost in the final of the 2014 edition: 12-7. The red-hot favourites saw main rivals Jug being eliminated in the semifinals by Mladost a day earlier and led no doubts about their intentions in the final early on. A dominant 4-0 score was displayed on the scoreboard at quarter-time in what was never a match in the remainder. Primorje held control and although Mladost got more involved, creating an upset was never in question. Final MVP Petar Muslim led all scorers with 3 for the winners. Damir Buric, Cosmin Radu and Croatian player of the year Sandro Sukno added 2. Ante Vukicevic netted 2 shots for Mladost. In the women's final Mladost took the trophy topping VK Bura 13-6 (2-1, 4-0, 3-2, 4-2).

EuroCup Quarterfinals leg 2 17/12/14

Posillipo turn things around, eliminate Kazan
As the only team in the quarterfinals Posillipo was able to turn the ty after a defeat in leg 1. The Italians, at home on Wednesday, defeated Sintez Kazan by five goals, 12-7, to overcome a three-goal loss in the teams first meeting. Led by Valentino Gallo who scored four goals Posillipo grabbed control in the second period but it was not until the final term before the advantage was extended to enough for the Italians to advance to the semi-finals. They were joined by Mornar who survived a comeback in Savona. The visiting Croats even got off to a great start leading 0-2 at quarter-time before Savona launched an vicious attack in the second half. However they're 8-4 win just wasn't enough after the 10-5 loss in leg 1. Acquachiara and Steaua Bucharest confirmed their spots in the semis drawing level with their respective opponents in leg 2. Acquachiara started off well in Nice but eventually had to settle for the 10-10 draw while Steaua held control over Waspo 98 Hannover in a close match in Germany to tie 9-9 as final score. It was enough after the two-goal win by Steaua in leg 1.

Spandau 04 Berlín-Sloznoki (HUN) Champions League PR Day 2 17/12/14

| Szolnok thrashes Spandau | |
| Group B: Spandau 04 (GER) vs. Szolnok (HUN) 7-17 http://www.microplustiming.com/lenchampionsleague/indexCL_web.php?news=1 http://www.microplustiming.com/lenchampionsleague/indexCL_web.php?c=ASM&g=1&t=A01&gr=2&s1=SPA&s2=SZO&st=2 |
Szolnok set a scoring record for the season by showing a fantastic display of attacking water polo. They netted at least four goals in each period while Spandau was unable to keep up with the star-studded Hungarian side at either end of the pool.
Though the Germans took the lead but Szolnok hit back quickly and after Spandau missed two man-ups in succession the visitors took control. In less than three minutes they netted three goals for a commanding 1-4 lead after the opening quarter. And they needed further three minutes to virtually decide the outcome: with 4:52 to go until the middle break Szolnok went 1-7 up. Marton Toth came up with a couple of great goals, Denes Varga, the world’s best player in 2013, showed some great moves in front. These two netted more goals (5 for Toth, 4 for Varga) than the hosts altogether.
In fact Szolnok, featuring 10 players who played in the final of the European Championships (Hungarian and Serbian aces), was superior and didn’t slow down for a single moment. They stopped at 17 goals, the most so far in the League.
Comments
Sandor Cseh, head coach of Szolnok:
“We came here to win, naturally and we knew we were capable of making it. Though we thought we would face a tough first half, or two and a half periods as we had seen Spandau’s games from the last season and also their clash with Jug where they led by two after three periods. However, we managed to shock the Germans as we defended superbly, we were disciplined, we stuck to our game plan and our goalie Attila Decker came up with a fantastic performance. The Germans seemed to lose their desire early in the game. Needless to say I’m absolutely satisfied with this game.”
Laszlo Baksa, goalie of Spandau:
"Credit to Szolnok, the game followed the pattern I had thought of beforehand. They penalized all of our mistakes, they scored from almost each opportunity they created. This makes them one of the best teams in the world. I can only hope we’ll be able to get a bit closer to them when we’ll have the return game in Szolnok. We have only path to follow: to work, to develop, to correct the mistakes and we also have to learn from these great sides everything we can and practice these new things."
Denes Varga, player of Szolnok
“At the beginning of the week we were really over the Moon so our coach had to cool us down and bring us back to Earth – we needed just this to start this game the way we did. We were tough, serious and collected. We knew Spandau could be a real threat if they could keep up with us for a longer period of time. We tried to prevent this and extend the gap the soonest possible. Since we succeeded, the difference became huge by the end of the game.”

Cseh Sándor csapata nem adott esélyt a német bajnoknak,
magabiztos játékkal, 17-7-es győzelemmel hozta haza a
három Bajnokok Ligája pontot.
