EuroCup Quarterfinals leg 2 17/12/14

Posillipo turn things around, eliminate Kazan

As the only team in the quarterfinals Posillipo was able to turn the ty after a defeat in leg 1. The Italians, at home on Wednesday, defeated Sintez Kazan by five goals, 12-7, to overcome a three-goal loss in the teams first meeting. Led by Valentino Gallo who scored four goals Posillipo grabbed control in the second period but it was not until the final term before the advantage was extended to enough for the Italians to advance to the semi-finals. They were joined by Mornar who survived a comeback in Savona. The visiting Croats even got off to a great start leading 0-2 at quarter-time before Savona launched an vicious attack in the second half. However they're 8-4 win just wasn't enough after the 10-5 loss in leg 1. Acquachiara and Steaua Bucharest confirmed their spots in the semis drawing level with their respective opponents in leg 2. Acquachiara started off well in Nice but eventually had to settle for the 10-10 draw while Steaua held control over Waspo 98 Hannover in a close match in Germany to tie 9-9 as final score. It was enough after the two-goal win by Steaua in leg 1.

Can home teams respond in Euro Cup quarterfinals returns?

With the home teams all emerging as winning sides in the Euro Cup quarterfinals leg 1 two weeks ago, the returns on Wednesday will see at least two of the four match-ups being counterattacked by the teams now playing in front of their fans. With two and three-goal losses respectively Waspo Hannover and Posillipo are expected to give it their all at home to keep the semi-finals in sight. For Savona, who are trailing Mornar by 5 goals, and Olympic Nice, who fell to Acquachiara by 6 goals in leg 1, the task of creating an upset is even more daunting. Both the Croatian side as well as Acquachiara are considered favourites to claim their spot with the final four. For Sintez Kazan and Steaua Bucharest, Wednesday's return matches will be all about completing their task after a big first step.
