Radnicki downs Oradea, OSC and Szolnok draw level
Radnicki was up first in the Champions League 3rd round hosting Oradea on Wednesday. And although the Serbs won, it didn't came easy against the Romanian visitors who proved ready to play. In a difficult first half Radnicki lacked rhythm allowing Oradea to stay close in what looked to become a tough night for the home side. However after the main break Radnicki took control and the 3-1 run as a result in the third period proved decisive. In an 8-goal 4th quarter the home team withstood the final attempts by Oradea to cut the deficit as they now will have to make up 5 goals in leg 2 at home in 2 weeks’ time. In Budapest an exciting battle between OSC and Szolnok ended in a fair 11-11 tie. A high paced game with 7 goals in 3 of the 4 quarters, it was close all the way although home side OSC looked to make a push in the third quarter. Returned centre-forward Joe Kayes stood out scoring 4 goals including a flying backhand off a free throw in the 4th quarter but, as his teammates, was given little space in a tight final minute in which both defences stepped up and avoided what could have been a winning goal so that leg 2 in Szolnok in 2 weeks' time will decide the outcome of this series. A young Red Star squad did surprisingly well at home in Belgrade facing Primorje. In fact the favourite Croatian squad decided the match in their favour just in the final minutes with centre-forward Cosmin Radu as standout scoring 5 goals. A pair of hits by teammate Petar Muslim however sealed the victory for the Croatian champions. Despite the late decision it looks that Primorje is still in the driver's seat for leg 2 at home defending a 3-goal lead. 2012 Euro League winners Pro Recco let little doubt about their intentions squaring off against Mladost at home. A quick 5-1 lead set the tone at quarter-time and the Italian all-star squad was not endangered in the remainder, despite a 1-3 run by the visitors in the third term. In a levelled fourth session Recco rolled to a solid 13-9 victory. Andrija Prlainovic and Aleksandar Ivovic led all scorers with 3, Ante Vukecivic produced the same offence for Mladost.
OSC vs. Szolnok
Champions League night in Budapest! It may be on a slightly smaller scale than the big football Champions League, but the stakes are not less high and the atmosphere is definitely not less intense. OSC and Szolnok are the only unbeaten teams in the Hungarian domestic competition at this moment and luck of the draw tagged the two powerhouses together for the final qualification round before the preliminary group stages. Szolnok were firm favourites after their showings in the first 4 rounds of the competition, but OSC was eager to proof that even Dániel Varga and his gang are only human.
1st Period (3-4).
The game lit up right from the start as both teams marked very tight and put a lot of pressure on the ball.
This hard defending led to a number of exclusions in the beginning of the game from which both teams scored twice.
Milan Aleksic then produced one of his trademark long range shots, followed by an even more wonderful goal by Miklós Gór-Nagy. With the shot clock running out, OSC’s central defender noticed Attila Decker ahead of his line and beat the goalie with a long range counter spin lob to keep the score level. Another man-up conversion for Szolnok via Norbert Madaras then made for a 3-4 score after a very entertaining 1st period.
2nd Period (0-1).
Both teams paid the price for the high pace start and the energy in the pool went down a level.
This led to a sloppy 2nd period with mistakes on either side. The only highlight came from another Szolnok goal as Tamás Mezei tapped in at the far post to make it 3-5 at half time.
3rd Period (5-2).
After the break Joseph Kayes celebrated his return to the pool with a hit to bring the home side within 1 goal again. Sloppy offensive work by Szolnok then allowed Zsolt Juhász to even make it level as he beat Decker from distance. The game picked up on pace again and Gábor Kis put Szolnok back ahead from a man-up play.
Kayes, who had been absent in recent weeks due to an eye injury, reacted by doubling his account when Drasko Brguljan found him after smart movement in the center area. OSC marched on while Szolnok looked vulnerable and took the lead for the first time in the game while going into the final period.
4th Period (3-4).
Serbian Zivko Gocic equalised early in the 4th period as he blasted one home from distance. However, Kayes was not done with scoring yet. His 3rd of the game put the home side back in front. The lead did not last for very long though because Gábor Kis made it 9-9 on the following attack. Tension in the crowd was rising as the officials took a few decisions against the hosts. With 30 seconds remaining and 11-11 score, OSC called a timeout for a final dash to victory. The attempt finished in beauty though as Bence Bátori’s lob failed to hit the target.
The return in Szolnok on November 12 promises to be a clash of epic proportions with both teams on equal chances.
“Our goal was to win, but unfortunately did this not happen. Joe Kayes got a lot of game time because we really needed him and he confirmed that. However, the end result was good against Szolnok despite the benefit of playing at home, because in a game like this there is very little home advantage.”- Balázs Vince (OSC Head Coach) – source Waterpolo.hu.
“The team played very well in the first half. But after the break we started making mistakes. Because of this the game turned and the OSC center could score his goals. I think it is a fair result in the end and we will analyze the game.” – Sándor Cseh (Szolnok Head Coach) – source Waterpolo.hu

Pro Recco: Tempesti, Fondelli, Jokovic 2, Figlioli 1, Giorgetti 2, Felugo, Giacoppo, Prlainovic 3, Figari, D. Pijetlovic 2, Ivovic 3, F. Di Fulvio, Pastorino. Allenatore: Igor Milanovic
Mladost: Marcelic, Bukic 2, I. Milakovic 1, Loncar 2, Dasic, Lozina, Capan, Buha 1, Pavicic, Zivkovic, Vukicevic 3 (2 rig.), Basic, Pisk. Allenatore: Vjekoslav Kobescak

OSC to exploit home start
The Champions League has come down to its final round before the preliminary phase gets underway. Three of last year's Final Six participants are among those who will try to eliminate their opponent over two matches in order to join the 8 wild card teams for 10 rounds of Champions League preliminary phase action. All eyes in Hungary will be on the domestic derby with OSC hosting Szolnok. The two current leaders of the Hungarian league, the only unbeaten sides in the domestic competition after 4 rounds, will now face each other to stay alive in this year's Champions League campaign. A tough week for OSC who will be battling defending Hungarian champions ZF-Eger at home on Friday in the Hungarian league. Szolnok already visited Eger in the 3rd round and came away with a hard-fought 9-10 victory thanks to a winning goal by Stefan Mitrovic. Now OSC will look to exploit the start of the home-and-away series at home in Budapest by gaining a good result and therewith perspective for the 2nd encounter in Szolnok two weeks later. Although Szolnok looks to be the favourites on paper, this match-up will be far from easy and likely to be closes in the series of 4 to be played around Europe Wednesday.
One of the others involves last year's finalist Radnicki taking on Romanian champions CSM Digi Oradea. Lots of familiar faces in the Romanian squad as Serbs Vojislav Cupic, Milos Korolija, national team goalie Gojko Pijetlovic and former national team head coach Dejan Stojanovic will play their fellow countrymen in Wednesday's match in Kragujevac. The Serbian side will be expecting nothing less than qualification for the prelims but know Oradea is an ever tough opponent, especially at home, and will be well-prepared. It will come down to veterans like captain Aleksandar Ciric, goalie Zdravko Radic and Marko Cuk, all part of the group of players who were rested for last weekend's Regional league match-up in Split, Croatia facing Jadran, to guide their team to an excellent result at home in order to travel to western Romania with the highest possible advantage.
Another favourite, eliminated by later champions Barceloneta in last year's Final Six semi-finals, Primorje Rijeka, travel to Belgrade to face the 2013 European champions Red Star. However the team that took centre stage in Belgrade in the 2013 edition of the Final Four is nowhere near the same these days with just the prodigy brothers Rasovic (Strahinja and Viktor), Sava Randjelovic and goalkeeper Denis Sefik left of the side that won back-to-back national titles the past seasons. Added with some talented youngsters, head coach Dejan Savic looks to get the maximum out of his new group and will get the ultimate test by hosting one of Europe's powerhouses this year in the two-time Adriatic league champions. Red Star barely survived the 2nd round and only advanced on goal difference thanks to large win over Spartak Volgograd so will now their place among the elite in round 3. The visitors, clear favourites, will enjoy knowing leg 2 will be played at home but also push hard to decide as much as possible on Wednesday already. The daunting task for the home side is to keep the damage limited, at least in the first match.
Finally another title favourite will be in action. Pro Recco takes on Mladost in their quest for success on the European stage after the disappointing 6th place in last year's Final Six. Now an All-Star calibre team including Serbian highlights Dusko Pijetlovic, Andrija Prlainovic and Filip Filipovic, guided by new head coach Igor Milanovic, enjoys nothing but a red-hot favorite status throughout the campaign, especially in the qualification phase where now an up-and-coming Mladost team will have the task of stopping the Italian champions. And despite a solid showing in the Regional league so far, that will not an easy task for the Croatian number three. And starting the two-game battle in Italy will not make it any easier. Mladost head coach Vjekoslav Kobescak is likely to get his team out there free of pressure just ready to show what they're made of giving Pro Recco as much as resistance possible. The result can be seen in Sori, Italy starting 20.30 hrs local time.

RADNICKI Y PRIMORJE, CLAROS FAVORITOS
