With the tickets for the U19 European Junior Championships in the bags the qualification tournaments semi-finalists battled for a spot in the finals on Saturday. In group A it was the final game of the day that brought some excitement as Romania stunned Slovakia and the Maltese crowd by recovering from 3-0 opening quarter deficit and still trailing 3-1 at half-time to win 5-6. All because of a huge third session thanks to 4 unanswered goals which turned around the game. It was even followed by the first goal of the final term for the 3-6 lead before Slovakia tried for a comeback by scoring twice, both in the final two minutes, but the Romanians held on to win by close margin. They will now face Greece who dominated Ukraine in the first semi-final 4-13. The 5th/6th place ranking match saw Great Britain and host Malta meet again. After the 6-6 tie in the group stage encounter this time Malta avoided last place by beating the Brits 8-11. In group B both group stage winners were eliminated in the semi-finals Turkey fell to Germany 7-11 followed by home side France being knocked off by the Netherlands 5-7.
