Slovakia was up for a tough task closing out their World League campaign at home against Italy, second ranked in group C but considered favorites with Montenegro. And although Italy needed a win to at least do what they need to keep hopes of Super Final qualification alive, Slovakia came close to an upset. Quite close in fact, after leading 4-2 at quarter time and even at 6-5 and 8-7 before the Italians took over. The contest, which featured no less than 19 goals from man-up situations, seemed over at 10-13 and 11-14 scores but the home side, led by goalie Lukáš Kozmér, was not done. Two goals in the final phase had the home fans in Kosice almost being witness to a sensational draw but the Alessandro Campagna coached squad held on to take home a 13-14 victory. Alex Giorgetti (pictured) continued his recent form by leading Italy on offence scoring five goals. Teammate at Pro Recco, Matteo Aicardi added three for the 2011 world champions. Slovakian centre forward Lukas Seman scored four goals for the home side.
