Russian champion Spartak Volgograd has won its first Euro Cup quarter-final match-up with fellow Russian competitor Dynamo Moscow 12-10. Although the home side looked in control the visitors from the nation's capital ensured that there's still everything to play for in leg 2 at home. Spartak led 10-7 going into a sloppy fourth quarter from both sides although featuring five goals. That will leave the second meeting, to be

played 18 December, to determine the semi-finalist out of this all-Russian match-up. Italian
favorite Acquachiara took an advance to the semis beating Jadran Herceg Novi by five goals in Montenegro: 6-11. Antonio Petkovic and Stefano Luongo (pictured) topped the score sheet with three each. The game featured a well balanced first half before the visitors from Naples, Italy proved superior in the thirth and fourth session and are now in the driver's seat towards semi-final qualification. Meanwhile Mladost seems virtually sure of a spot in the semi-finals. The Croats rolled past Primorac Kotor 14-4 after a convincing 6-1 half time score and can travel to Montenegro with a more than comfortable ten-goal advantage under their belt. Kristijan Milakovic finished Wednesday's game as top scorer netting four shots. In the final game of the day Posillipo gained a four-goal advantage towards a second quarter-final meeting with French side Sète winning 12-8 at home on Wednesday. The French visitors tried a little comeback in the third session as the game went into the final quarter with a 8-7 score. But the Italians, led by Valentino Gallo's four goals, responded well and quickly outscored Sète 4-1 for the four-goal victory.

The Euro Cup tournament is already down to the final eight teams squarring off in the quarter-finals to start on Wednesday. An interesting matchup will be played in Herceg Novi, Montenegro where the home side, led by coach Vladimir Gojkovic, host current Italian league second ranked Acquachiara, coached by the experienced Paolo de Crescenzo. Jadran, although reaching the quarters with the slightest advantage over fellow contender Marseille in the qualification round is enjoying a nice recent stretch in the Adriatic league were both other Montenegrin representatives and rivals, Budva and Primorac, were defeated. In Acquachiara they face another team looking to have found its form after winning group C in the previous round. Despite falling to league leading side Brescia victories against fellow Naples based Posillipo, Como Nuoto and last Saturday Savona got them to a joint second spot with Pro Recco after 6 rounds. Meanwhile in Zagreb one of the title favorites, Mladost, welcomes Primorac Kotor, looking for some European glory after the 2009 victory in the then Euroleague and second place in 2010. Now a revitalized team, led by former great Veljko Uskokovic is slowly building towards new success. One of the bright stars of the team that finished second in the previous round's group C is allround centre forward Nikola Murisic who scored 21 goals in 7 Adriatic league rounds so far for the 8th ranked side. They will face a Mladost side looking for a good results in front of their home fans to avoid being surprised in a possible close second leg game in Montenegro. The Russian derby will start in Volgograd as defending national champs Spartak Volgograd are the favorites to win this encounter despite the fact that Dynamo Moscow stayed undefeated to win the qualification round group A while Spartak tied with Posillipo eventually finishing second on goal difference in group B. Finally in Naples, Italy it's Posillipo hosting French side Sète. The visitors, despite leading the French league after four rounds, are coming off a tough 11-10 win over the last-ranked team of Noisy last weekend and now face a balanced Posillipo team who defeated Nervi 13-9 in the domestic league and now hold fifth place on the table. With the first leg in Italy it looks like the Napolitans hold the cards for a good and perhaps decisive start to this home-and-away play-off meeting.
