Hungary is going well so far at the Samartzidis Cup in Lamia, Greece. After their Friday morning victory over Montenegro, the second game of the day ended in a win as well. Serbia was defeated 10-8 after a nice comeback from trailing 1-3 going into the second quarter. Goals by Denes Varga, Norbert Madaras and Gabor Kis caused a 4-4 tied game at half time but the Magyars were not done and took over control in the third term. In a nice all around team effort which included four different goal scorers in that third quarter Hungary took the lead 8-6 with eight minutes to go and survived the final session to record a nice 10-8 victory and stay undefeated in two tough games on Friday. Center Kis and Marton Szivos finished as top scorers netting two each. Home side Greece was in action for the second time in the following match facing the debuting side of reigning world champs Italy who send the Greek to their second straight loss 8-11. Center Matteo Aicardi and Alex Giorgetti were the top scorers netting three each.

Hungary and Montenegro kicked off the 2013 Samartzidis Cup on Friday. The Hungarians came out well taking a 4-0 lead through the second quarter before the Montenegrins managed to get on the scoreboard. However Hungary was in control and remained in the lead in the remainder of the game although goals by Filip Klikovac and a pair from Darko Brguljan reduced the deficit to two goals but Montenegro still had to settle for the 8-6 loss. Marton Szivos and Denes Varga finished as top scorers for Hungary netting a pair each while Darko Brguljan topped the scorers list for Montenegro with two as well. The second game of the opening day saw Serbia edging home side Greece. The win came in the second half after the score was tied 4-4 at half time. The Serbs, just coming off a training camp in Canada, took a 7-5 lead with eight minutes to go and extended the advantage to three goals at full time. Both centers finished as top scorers for Serbia. Dusko Pijetlovic and Slobodan Nikic scored two each.
