Kazan, Marseille to decide close series
The biggest battle in the Euro Cup quarterfinals can expected to be fought in Kazan, Russia. Here next to the place of the temporary venue for the 2015 World Championships water polo tournament, Sintez Kazan hosts Marseille defending just a 1-goal lead out of the leg 1 encounter. Here the Russians got away from France with an 8-9 victory, and although good for their confidence, both teams will realise the difference is tight and the return match on Wednesday will determine who is to advance to the semifinals.
Elsewhere the situations are different, mainly because the results in leg 1 were with a greater difference in the final score. Brescia will host Kirishi but is virtually sure of making it to the semis after having won the match in Russia 5-11 a month ago. Szeged surprised by dominating Champions League round 3 loser Waspo 98 Hannover at home as they rolled to a 9-3 victory but should be focussed on maintaining the advantage when playing in Germany on Wednesday as Waspo will go all-in. The same goes for Mornar who travel to Oradea. Last year's semifinalists Mornar defeated Champions League loser Oradea 14-9 in game 1 but, although a tough one for the Romanians, know that the overall win is far from being a done deal.
