USA maintains world junior title
The USA women have repeated as world junior champions. In a repeat final of two years ago, also in Volos, the Americans defeated Spain 10-13 behind a strong performance in the second quarter, to retain the 20 & under age group world junior championship gold medal. This time however the world junior championships featured the pack of test ruled, imposted by FINA to check the results on the game. It meant six against six in the water and just eleven players per team. With more goals scored per game as one of the main results, the outcome of the championship was not changed with USA confirming its bright future in women's water polo by delivering another gold-medal winning junior team. The bronze medal was claimed by Russia who convicingly got past Canada 8-15 in the game for 3rd place. Home team Greece finished in 5th place topping Italy 12-7 while Hungary edged Brazil 11-10 to take 7th position. Most Valuable Player of the 11th World Women’s Junior Championship was Aria Fischer from USA. Τhe prize for the tournament best goalkeeper was won by her USA team-mate Amanda Longan.
¡Enormes!

Baku y Volos confirman nuestro buen momento

¡Fuerza!

Goal-scoring festivals mark junior worlds opening day
The test rules definitely made their mark on the results of the opening day of the U20 women's world junior championships in Volos, Greece. A lot of goals were on display as the teams of 6 against 6 and just a total of 11 players per side took on one another in the first matches of the 7-day event in Greece. The closest result actually featured a fairly usual amount of goals as the Netherlands overcame an early 5-1 deficit to Italy by fighting back to draw level 9-9 in the end. Japan meanwhile did well against Russia in an absolute scoring festival that saw an incredible total of 43 goals being scored, but the Russian ladies managed to pull off the win: 20-23. In other results Brazil managed to hold off New Zealand 9-16 and Canada got off to a nice start edging Australia 9-12. USA crushed Mexico 28-0 and Greece rolled past Great Britain 4-27. Hungary also enjoyed a comfortable win on opening day beating South Africa 18-3.

Resultado: 8-23
Cuartos: 1-5, 2-6, 3-7 y 2-5.
Ucrania: Dvorzhetska, Khodos, Melnychuk, Andrieieva, Telypko, Kovhan, Lenska, Bulakh, Pogorila y Fedutenko.
España: Sabugal, Crespi, Leiton, Castellà, A. González, I. González, Cordobés, Ortiz, Forca, Mota y López.
