Pro Recco wins record 8th Champions League
Pro Recco are champions of Europe once more. The Italian champions on Saturday defeated Primorje in the grand final of the Champions League Final Six 8-7 to win their record 8th European title. In a typical final and tough match-up, Pietro Figlioli shot home a beautifully executed counter attack with 1.30 remaining in the game to give Recco a 6-8 lead which proved decisive. Although Sandro Sukno responded off a highly contested free throw, the 24 seconds remaining were too little for a miracle as Recco went on to be victorious. It saw Primorje, and former Recco players Sukno en Damir Buric, settling for silver medal for a second time after falling to Pro Recco in the 2012 final as well. The Croatian champions last year had claimed the bronze medal.Primorje was on top of their game in the opening phase and that was displayed a 3-1 lead at quarter-time, after Sukno already scored his second goal with 4 seconds remaining in the opening period. Then however a simply tough phase of the encounter followed. How a final should be. Both defences worked well and the explosive offence players that both line-ups include had trouble creating space as neither teams could impose their offensive game and after Maro Jokovic made the best of 2 opportunities scoring twice in a row, the final was tied 3-3 at half-time. Recco now tried to make a run in the third quarter as they took a 4-5 lead and after fellow Primorje standout Petar Muslim had tied at 5-5, struck back twice consecutively through Dusko Pijetlovic and Alex Giorgetti who scored nicely as he got his team in the lead by two goals (5-7) at the end of the third quarter.
It was Muslim who finally broke the deadlock of a tense final session as he blasted one home with 3.27 to play to bring Primorje back within one: 6-7. But then the dagger followed by Pietro Figlioli. The fast swimmer and shooter was left open in a well-executed counter attack and from 5 meters out beautifully scored with just 1.32 remaining. A daunting task for Primorje who saw their hopes of a quick response being bashed by Damir Buric who committed a turnover the following possession and quickly after even was excluded with substitution. Recco head coach Igor Milanovic took a time-out and told his men to play out the clock. They did and in the remaining half a minute, Primorje managed to score through Sukno who shot past two defenders to net the 7-8 goal but that was it as Pro Recco played out the game clock and started celebrating a record-breaking European title. With, at the helm, the head coach who edged Recco in the famous 2011 final in Rome as coach of Partizan: Igor Milanovic.
In the first match of the day hosts Barceloneta claimed the bronze medal as they topped Jug Dubrovnik in a high-scoring contest 12-14, led by Most Valuable Player awarded Felipe Perrone's 4 goals. The decision in the game came late in the third period and early fourth quarter as the home side, dethroned champions, scored three goals in a row to take a 9-12 lead. Jug came back to within a single-goal distance on two more occasions late in the game but the dagger was produced by Serbian centre-forward Nemanja Ubovic who scored the 12-14 goal with under a minute remaining.

L’Atlètic-Barceloneta supera el Jug (12-14) i acaba tercer a la Final Six (BTV)
L'Atlètic-Barceloneta, amb casquet blau, ha superat el Jug Dubrovnik de Croàcia per 12 a 14 i ha acabat en la tercera posició de la Final Six de waterpolo disputada a les piscines Bernat Picornell. Amb aquesta tercera plaça, els mariners es converteixen en l'únic europeu que aconsegueix acabar entre els tres primers en els últims tres anys. L'any 2013, l'Atlètic-Barceloneta va ser tercer a Belgrad; l'any passat, campió de la Champions i aquest any ha tornat a repetir la tercera posició. El Pro Recco ha estat el campió en superar el Primorje Rijeka per 7 a 8.
El Partizan s’emporta la segona edició del Kids Final contra el CN Barcelona (BTV)
El Partizan s'ha imposat al Barcelona per 14 a 5, en la final de la segona edició del torneig internacional Kids Final, els serbis han estat els millors dels setze equips que hi han participat. Els cenebistes només han pogut aguantar el primer quart, que ha acabat amb un 3 a 2 per als serbis, però els jugadors del Partizan han estat molt superiors en la resta de quarts.
FINAL SIX: PRO RECCO, CAMPEÓN DE EUROPA
30/05/2015 - El Pro Recco italiano se ha proclamado esta tarde campeón de Europa de Waterpolo Masculino después de ganar la Final Six 2015 en la finalísima celebrada frente al Primorje Rijeka croata por 8—7. Los hombres de Igor Milanovic, que partían como favoritos en Barcelona, sufrieron mucho como ante el Barceloneta frente al equipo del español Xavi García. Al final, octava Champions para el millonario conjunto italiano.
Sorprendente inicio de primer periodo con un Primorje mucho más acertado de cara al marco contrario y que ha visto puerta con bastante facilidad. El rumano Radu era el encargado de abrir el electrónico, tanto al que respondía poco después el balcánico Ivovic para el bando transalpino. Pero en ese momento salía a la palestra el nombre de Sandro Sukno para anotar dos goles de forma consecutiva y dejar a los suyos dos arriba al término de los primeros ocho minutos.
El acierto del primer periodo se ha convertido en desesperación para los de Asic en el segundo cuarto, en el que han desaprovechado multitud de acciones en superioridad y han visto como Recco, sin mostrar su mejor versión, igualaba el choque gracias a dos dianas casi seguidas de Jokovic. Tras cuatro minutos sin verse ningún gol en las Piscines Picornell, la bocina ha anunciado la llegada del descanso con 16 minutos por delante y todo por decidir.
LA SOLIDEZ DEFENSIVA DE RECCO, CLAVE
Se mantenía el encuentro con muchas interrupciones y un juego demasiado trabado, indicativo de todo lo que había en juego. Para Recco, la octava Champions de su historia; para Primorje, la primera en sus vitrinas. Figlioli anotaba el 3-4 en lo que se convertía en parcial de 0-3 para los italianos. Después de varios intercambios de golpes, Pijetlovic deshacía la igualada con el 5-6 desde zona de boya. Justo antes de que sonara la bocina final, el transalpino Alex Giorgetti lograba un doloroso 5-7. Ocho minutos y la tensión que invadía el ambiente en las Picornell.
Dos goles han sido demasiada diferencia para un Primorje al que le costaba mucho crearse espacios para rematar con claridad. Han pasado cinco minutos sin que se moviera el marcador, con un Recco que incluso ha podido sentenciar en alguna acción de uno de más. Muslim, uno de los mejores en los croatas, ha acercado a uno a su equipo (6-7), pero tras una oportunidad con superioridad marrada por los de Asic, Figlioli ha marcado un 6-8 casi definitivo con 1’30” por jugarse. El tanto final de Muslim ha dejado el resultado en 7-8 y a un Pro Recco que es ya el club con más Champions League de la historia.

30/05/2015 - El CN Atlètic—Barceloneta finalizó tercero de Europa tras ganar al JUG Dubrovnik croata por 12—14 en el partido por el tercer y cuarto puesto de la Final Six 2015 celebrado en las Municipales de Picornell con unas gradas a rebosar. Los hombres de Chus Martín han realizado un excepcional trabajo ganando a Szolnoki por penalties y cayendo en semifinales por un solo gol ante Pro Recco tras un enorme partido. Felipe Perrone, nombrado MVP de la Final Six 2015. Felicidades, Pipe!
Comenzaba atizando Albert Español con el gol que inauguraba el marcador en el partido por el tercer y cuarto puesto. Aún así, el australiano Younger aprovechaba una jugada de uno de más para igualar el marcador. A pesar del 1-2 con el que volvían a ponerse por delante los de Chus Martín (Ubovic), un parcial de 3-0 para el conjunto croata (Obradovic, de penalti, buslje y Janovic, también de penalti) ponía 2-4 por delante a los de Kobescal. Perrone y Boskovic dejaban el electrónico en 5-3 al término de los primeros ocho minutos.
Se ha mantenido la igualdad en el segundo periodo en unas Bernat Picornell con un aspecto magnífico para vivir la despedida de los marineros de la Final Six. Se estrenaba Chalo Echenique con un 5-4 que recortaba distancias y Perrone demostraba su gran estado de forma con el 5-5. Tras la respuesta de Boskovic, repetía el brasileño con su tercer tanto de la tarde (6-6). El intercambio de golpes no se detenía y, primero Obradovic y Echenique, y luego Constantin y Español (8-8) dejaban todo abierto para el descanso. Debería sudar mucho aún el que quisiera llevarse el bronce.
MUY SÓLIDOS LOS MARINEROS EN EL TRAMO FINAL
Ha bajado bastante el ritmo del partido en los terceros ocho minutos. Los dos equipos empezaban a acusar el enorme desgaste de las semifinales y ante el acercamiento progresivo del final del partido las defensas se han ido imponiendo a los ataques. Han tenido que pasar cuatro minutos para que Chalo Echenique abriera el marcador. La respuesta de Ivankovic ponía el 9-9. Un parcial de 0-2 favorable a los hombres de Chus Martín allanaba el camino para lograr el bronce. Ubovic, de gran reverso, y López-Escribano eran los autores. 9-11 con ocho minutos por disputar.
Han logrado mantener su ventaja los barceloneses, que han sabido contener las embestidas del equipo croata. Han llegado a ponerse a uno los de Kobescal en varias ocasiones, pero la diana final de Nemanja Ubovic (12-14), uno de los destacados hoy, ha enterrado las esperanzas de un conjunto balcánico que se ha tenido que conformar con la cuarta posición. La medalla de bronce se ha quedado en casa.

Felipe Perrone, MVP de la Final Six
31/05/2015 - El CN Atlètic—Barceloneta, que se ha colgado la medalla de bronce en esta Final Six disputada en las Piscines Picornell, ha recibido las dos distinciones individuales que ha otorgado la competición. Por un lado, el joven Roger Tahull ha recibido el trofeo al Fair Play, promovido por uno de los sponsors del torneo, Fluidra.
Además, el brasileño Felipe Perrone también ha sido condecorado con otra distinción individual, en este caso la de jugador más valorado. Perrone ha acabado la presente edición de la Champions con 22 goles y dando un recital en los tres encuentros de Final Six que ha jugado.

Marc Roca: "Hemos estado a la altura"
30/05/2015 - Tenían motivos para estar satisfechos los jugadores del CN Atlètic Barceloneta al término del encuentro que ha supuesto para ellos el alzarse con la medalla de bronce como tercer mejor equipo de esta Champions. Tres ediciones consecutivas subiendo al podio (bronce—oro—bronce) para un equipo que, a pesar del cruel final que vivió ayer, ha dado la cara en todo momento y ha cuajado una competición más que notable. Marc Roca contaba a RFEN sus sensaciones.
"Estamos contentos con esta medalla de bronce. El partido ha sido muy duro en todos los aspectos, puesto que la manera como acabó todo ayer no fue la óptima para preparar psicológicamente un partido como el de hoy. Aún así, y a pesar de no haber ofrecido nuestra mejor versión, hemos estado muy intensos y hemos luchado hasta el final porque nuestra gente se merecía esta alegría", aseguraba el jugador catalán, que sabe de sobras lo que es jugar partidos de vital importancia.
FUTURO INCIERTO
Cuestionado sobre el balance que saca el equipo de toda la competición, Roca no puede ser más explícito: "Creo que ha sido todo magnífico, la organización, todo. Es excelente la imagen que hemos dado, tanto dentro como fuera de la piscina, y de verdad que era una gozada mirar a la grada y ver ese ambiente y colorido. La experiencia de estos dos años ha sido maravillosa". Roca ha hablado en clave de futuro para los micrófonos de la RFEN: "Evidentemente es pronto decir nada, pero a mi me gustaría seguir aquí, es un club muy grande y que está haciendo las cosas muy bien. Aún así, eso no depende de mí, así que lo único que puedo decir es que si sigo aquí el año que viene será más difícil que nunca seguir en lo más alto. Pero lucharemos como siempre".
Cabe recordar que el equipo marinero deberá clasificarse en la fase de grupos al no ejercer ya como anfitrión de la Final Six, que se librará en Hungría y con ZF Eger como maestro de ceremonías.

Primorje and Pro Recco in 2015 Champions League final
Primorje are this year's Champions League first finalists. An expected close and tough battle versus fellow Croatians Jug Dubrovnik was won 9-10 in Barcelona on Friday to claim their 2nd finals berth after 2012 and the bronze medal last year. Led by Sandro Sukno (4 goals) and Petar Muslim (3) Primorje withstood a 4th quarter surge by Jug who came to within a single-goal distance at 8-9 and 9-10 but thanks to an important goal by standout Sukno and a fumble by Jug's lefthander Ante Viskovic late in the game on extra man for the Dubrovnik based side, the team from Rijeka managed to hold on for the victory and start celebrating reaching the final.
Jug had led the score for over a half as they looked determine to finally gain a victory over their domestic rivals in a big game this season after defeats in the Regional league final, Croatian play-offs finals and leaving the prelims group B top spot to Primorje. The turning point in the score came in the third period at the hands of Sukno and Muslim who both scores, Sukno even twice, and saw Primorje 5-6 and 7-8 advantages. When centre-forward Cosmin Radu put his team up 7-9, it looked a major blow to Jug, especially as Miho Boskovic had just received his 3rd personal foul and was done for the game. But Marko Macan, and later Nikola Janovic on a beautiful shot from the left wing on man-up, held Jug in the game. It proved not enough, though as Primorje held on to the slim lead in the final minutes to claim their spot in the big Champions League final where the winner of the Barceloneta vs. Pro Recco semifinal will be the opponent for the title.
The second semifinal went on to become a true spectacle. Home side Barceloneta got off to great start imposing its play and outplaying favourite Pro Recco but the Italian champion stayed calm and gradually, led by an incredible Filip Filipovic who took off for 5 goals after a quiet start, got back into the game. Only to struck when it counted the most. After a welcomed exclusion in the game's hectic final phase, the man-up possession was played out as quickly, calm and beautiful as you ever see with Dusko Pijetlovic on the finish in front of goal to score the winning 11-12 goal for Recco with just 6 seconds remaining. That proved enough to break the ongoing resistance of the Final Six hosts who released a desperate shot from their own half in the final seconds but had to settle for the a bitter defeat in a match where they firmly believed to be on their way of upsetting the heavy title-favourites. Thanks to a great first half in which their dynamic play and fast swimming led to a quick 2-0 lead and still 7-5 score at half-time, Barceloneta looked well underway of keeping Recco in trouble in the second half. Here however the patiently playing Italian side got into it and continuesly managed to draw level in response of an ongoing surge by Barceloneta who kept taking slim leads.
But as Recco remained close and even levelled, the inevitable turnaround came in the game's final phase. Alex Giorgetti surprised the Barceloneta defence and once more excelling goalkeeper Daniel Lopez by shooting quickly on man-up with just over 2 minutes remaining to give Recco its first lead of the game at 10-11. But Barceloneta was not done or broken, at all. Just half a minute later Marc Minguell netted a beatiful shot of the right win on man-up for the hosts to tie the showdown at 11-11. A nervous finish tot he game was what followed. Lopez made another huge save when denying Recco centre-forward Dusko Pijetlovic scoring from 5 meters out with 26 seconds later. But disaster still struck for Barceloneta. Their top scorer Felipe Perrone was excluded with just 14 seconds remaining and Recco did not hesitate one second. They quickly played around the ball and from the right wing saw Pijetlovic free to tip in, right in front of Lopez who could not block Pijetlovic' close-range attempt as he netted the game winner with 6 seconds remaining silencing the home crowd, after they initially were screaming even more in disgrace of Perrone's exclusion. But dissapointment took over just seconds after as Barceloneta could not produce a miracle in the final seconds and Pro Recco made it to the finals by edging Barceloneta 11-12 in what is the game of the tournament thus far. The final will be a replay of the 2012 Euro League edition when Recco, also with foreigners Ivovic, Pijetlovic and Prlainovic in the line-up defeated Primorje 11-8 in Oradea, Romania.
ZF-Eger have taken 5th place at the Champions League Final Six in Barcelona on Friday beating fellow Hungarians Szolnok 8-7 on a winning goal from Norbert Hosnyanszky with 1.35 remaining. The encounter became a close one despite Eger's better start. They quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Szolnok tightened up their defence and Eger started to have more and more difficulties to find the opposing net. Still they managed to stay in front in the score but saw Szolnok, clearly not in the form one would expect from the recent crowned Hungarian champions, simply hanging on. It was Denes Varga who carried his team scoring 4 goals including a 4th-quarter equaliser from the penalty spot early in the period as the score was levelled 7-7. A close finish was expected, and did occur but without any goals, until the final two minutes. After losing both centre-backs Uros Cuckovic and Daniel Angyal with 3 personal fouls each, it was Norbert Hosnyanszky who scored the winning goal despite being excluded half a minute later and seeing two attempts of Stefan Mitrovic not hitting the target. Eger held on to defeat their Hungarian rivals 8-7 and therewith took 5th place. Szolnok, who came in as title-favourites, but were eliminated on penalties by hosts Barceloneta on Thursday, concluded their Final Six tournament by finishing 6th and last.

Primorje are this year's Champions League first finalists. An expected close and tough battle versus fellow Croatians Jug Dubrovnik was won 9-10 in Barcelona on Friday to claim their 2nd finals berth after 2012 and the bronze medal last year. Led by Sandro Sukno (4 goals) and Petar Muslim (3) Primorje withstood a 4th quarter surge by Jug who came to within a single-goal distance at 8-9 and 9-10 but thanks to an important goal by standout Sukno and a fumble by Jug's lefthander Ante Viskovic late in the game on extra man for the Dubrovnik based side, the team from Rijeka managed to hold on for the victory and start celebrating reaching the final.
Jug had led the score for over a half as they looked determine to finally gain a victory over their domestic rivals in a big game this season after defeats in the Regional league final, Croatian play-offs finals and leaving the prelims group B top spot to Primorje. The turning point in the score came in the third period at the hands of Sukno and Muslim who both scores, Sukno even twice, and saw Primorje 5-6 and 7-8 advantages. When centre-forward Cosmin Radu put his team up 7-9, it looked a major blow to Jug, especially as Miho Boskovic had just received his 3rd personal foul and was done for the game. But Marko Macan, and later Nikola Janovic on a beautiful shot from the left wing on man-up, held Jug in the game. It proved not enough, though as Primorje held on to the slim lead in the final minutes to claim their spot in the big Champions League final where the winner of the Barceloneta vs. Pro Recco semifinal will be the opponent for the title.
The second semifinal went on to become a true spectacle. Home side Barceloneta got off to great start imposing its play and outplaying favourite Pro Recco but the Italian champion stayed calm and gradually, led by an incredible Filip Filipovic who took off for 5 goals after a quiet start, got back into the game. Only to struck when it counted the most. After a welcomed exclusion in the game's hectic final phase, the man-up possession was played out as quickly, calm and beautiful as you ever see with Dusko Pijetlovic on the finish in front of goal to score the winning 11-12 goal for Recco with just 6 seconds remaining. That proved enough to break the ongoing resistance of the Final Six hosts who released a desperate shot from their own half in the final seconds but had to settle for the a bitter defeat in a match where they firmly believed to be on their way of upsetting the heavy title-favourites. Thanks to a great first half in which their dynamic play and fast swimming led to a quick 2-0 lead and still 7-5 score at half-time, Barceloneta looked well underway of keeping Recco in trouble in the second half. Here however the patiently playing Italian side got into it and continuesly managed to draw level in response of an ongoing surge by Barceloneta who kept taking slim leads.
But as Recco remained close and even levelled, the inevitable turnaround came in the game's final phase. Alex Giorgetti surprised the Barceloneta defence and once more excelling goalkeeper Daniel Lopez by shooting quickly on man-up with just over 2 minutes remaining to give Recco its first lead of the game at 10-11. But Barceloneta was not done or broken, at all. Just half a minute later Marc Minguell netted a beatiful shot of the right win on man-up for the hosts to tie the showdown at 11-11. A nervous finish tot he game was what followed. Lopez made another huge save when denying Recco centre-forward Dusko Pijetlovic scoring from 5 meters out with 26 seconds later. But disaster still struck for Barceloneta. Their top scorer Felipe Perrone was excluded with just 14 seconds remaining and Recco did not hesitate one second. They quickly played around the ball and from the right wing saw Pijetlovic free to tip in, right in front of Lopez who could not block Pijetlovic' close-range attempt as he netted the game winner with 6 seconds remaining silencing the home crowd, after they initially were screaming even more in disgrace of Perrone's exclusion. But dissapointment took over just seconds after as Barceloneta could not produce a miracle in the final seconds and Pro Recco made it to the finals by edging Barceloneta 11-12 in what is the game of the tournament thus far. The final will be a replay of the 2012 Euro League edition when Recco, also with foreigners Ivovic, Pijetlovic and Prlainovic in the line-up defeated Primorje 11-8 in Oradea, Romania.
ZF-Eger have taken 5th place at the Champions League Final Six in Barcelona on Friday beating fellow Hungarians Szolnok 8-7 on a winning goal from Norbert Hosnyanszky with 1.35 remaining. The encounter became a close one despite Eger's better start. They quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Szolnok tightened up their defence and Eger started to have more and more difficulties to find the opposing net. Still they managed to stay in front in the score but saw Szolnok, clearly not in the form one would expect from the recent crowned Hungarian champions, simply hanging on. It was Denes Varga who carried his team scoring 4 goals including a 4th-quarter equaliser from the penalty spot early in the period as the score was levelled 7-7. A close finish was expected, and did occur but without any goals, until the final two minutes. After losing both centre-backs Uros Cuckovic and Daniel Angyal with 3 personal fouls each, it was Norbert Hosnyanszky who scored the winning goal despite being excluded half a minute later and seeing two attempts of Stefan Mitrovic not hitting the target. Eger held on to defeat their Hungarian rivals 8-7 and therewith took 5th place. Szolnok, who came in as title-favourites, but were eliminated on penalties by hosts Barceloneta on Thursday, concluded their Final Six tournament by finishing 6th and last.

Jug vs. Primorje: facts and figures
The Champions League Final Six big semifinals will be kicked off on Friday with an all-Croatian clash between Jug Dubrovnik and Primorje Rijeka. Two teams that know each other very well and previously met in this season's Regional league regular season and final, Croatian play-offs finals and Champions League preliminary phase group B. Who has the edge and what is the history between the sides? Read some nice facts and figures of the teams and their recent meetings to put Friday's encounter in perspective.
• There shouldn’t be too many surprises from either sides in this game: they will meet for the 11th time this season! In the Champions League they met in the prelims, Primorje won 10-5 in Rijeka, while Jug hit back 9-6 in Dubrovnik – that was their only win in the regular time. In the Regional League (also serves as regular season games in the Croatian league) it was 8-12 to Rijeka in Dubrovnik and 6-6 in Rijeka. Then, in the final of this series Rijeka won 15-9. In the Croatian league final they went all the way in the best-of-three series, finally Rijeka prevailing with 3-2 in aggregate. Here are the results from Rijeka’s perspective: 9-8, 12-13 (penalties), 9-8, 11-12 (penalties), 11-8. All in all, Rijeka won 6 games in regular time, 3 was tied (two went to Jug with pens) and Jug won one.
• It was a different story before 2013, that time Jug dominated their rivalry, beating Rijeka on three consecutive occasions in the finals in 2011, 2012 and in 2013.
• In the previous editions of the Champions League they also clashed frequently. Last season they were also in the same group, drawing both home and away (9-9 in Rijeka, 11-11 in Dubrovnik) while in 2010/11 Jug won 12-7 in Dubrovnik and 8-6 in Rijeka.
• This is Rijeka’s 3rd try in the Final Six/Four. At first they finished runners-up, losing to Recco (ITA) in the final in Oradea 2012. Last year they came 3rd, after losing to Barceloneta (ESP) in the semis and beating Partizan (SRB) in the bronze medal game.
• Rijeka was ranked first during the prelims only once: after the last round when they beat Szolnok (HUN) in a tight match.
• Rijeka lost two away games in the prelims: in Szolnok (12-13) and in Dubrovnik (6-9). They won all others, 8 in the prelims and 5 in the qualifications.
• By beating Jug in the local final, Primorje won its third national title altogether (first came in 1938).
• Rijeka won the prestigious regional competition, the Regional (former Adriatic) League for the third straight time this season.
• Previously in Europe, Rijeka was runner-up in the Cupwinners Cup in 1977.
• Rijeka has a multinational line-up: they have players from Romania (Cosmin Radu), Spain (Xavier Garcia) and Montenegro (Dejan Lazovic and Antonio Petrovic).
• Regarding memories from Barcelona, Primorje’s Sandro Sukno has some to look back as he received the best scorer’s trophy here, in the Picornell Pool at the 2013 World Championships (tied with Montengero’s Aleksandar Ivovic, who plays for Pro Recco). In fact, Sukno was born and raised in Dubrovnik, he is the son of Dubrovnik’s iconic player, Goran (Olympic champion in 1984). He played for Jug before joining Recco – then he returned to Croatia but accepted the call from Rijeka.
• Rijeka has one former Final Four MVP player in its line-up: the goalkeeper Frano Vican was elected the best in 2008 (he played for Jug then). Jug has also one MVP, Miho Boskovic who earned the distinction in 2007 (as a Jug player).
• Rijeka had a solid scoring record in the prelims: three teams managed to score over 100 goals, Primorje was the 3rd with 114, behind Recco (129) and Szolnok (122).
• Primorje is ranked 5th in the prelims based on the goals against: they conceded 82.
• Cosmin Radu was Rijeka’s best scorer in the prelims with 23 goals, he was tied second in the League with Denes Varga (Szolnok) – the latter played for Rijeka in the previous four seasons. Behind Radu, Sandro Sukno is next on the ‘in-house’ ranks with 17 goals, while Petar Muslim and Xavier Garcia both netted 16.
• Two players top the scoring list for Jug in the prelims: Miho Boskovic and Nikola Janovic both netted 17 goals, while Paulo Obradovic scored 16. After yesterday they are tied with 18 for each.
• Rijeka faced 106 man-downs and played 109 times in man-up in the prelims. For Jug it stood at 101/102. Jug came up with a great display of 6 on 5s in the crossover game against Eger (HUN) here in Barcelona yesterday, netting 8 for 10.
• Primorje’s Ivan Buljubasic wasn’t the ‘darling’ of the referees, he was the most penalised player in the prelims (of all teams) with 21 exclusions and 1 penalty foul.
• As for the penalties, Rijeka earned 8 (scored 7/8) and 5 were called against them. For Jug: 11 and 11 (9/11).

Barceloneta vs. Recco: facts and figures
Today's second semifinal of the Champions League Final Six in Barcelona will see hosts Barceloneta taking on favourites Pro Recco. Two teams that have already met twice this season during the preliminary stage of the tournament since both were drawn in group A. But there's more to say regarding this match-up including some historic facts. Check out some nice facts and figures about both teams and today's meeting.• The two sides met in the prelims as well and Recco fully dominated both games: they won 15-7 in Barcelona (led 5-0 early in the second period and 7-1 at half-time) and downed the Spaniards 17-7 in Italy, that time it stood 11-4 at half-time. In the previous season they played in the same group, too, and their contests were definitely tighter: 10-10 in Barcelona and 11-6 in Sori.
• Barceloneta is the title-holder: in last year they finished third in the prelims but posted a couple of upsets in the Final Six. First they beat Brescia (ITA), then upended Rijeka (CRO) in the semis and Radnicki (SRB) in the final. The Serbs arrived to Barcelona with a perfect score-line (10-0-0) but Barceloneta could outdo them and won 7-6. Now it’s Recco’s turn as they also produced a 10-0-0 run in the prelims.
• This was the Spaniards’ first European title. Previously, they reached the last stage in 2013 for the first time and finished 3rd in the Final Four held in Belgrade.
• This season the Spanish couldn’t reproduce their previous year’s performance. In 2014 they finished the prelims with 5-1-4, now they had to settle for 3-2-5. They were saved by the host’s right for a guaranteed berth as they finished 4th in the group.
• In home waters they are the rulers in Spain, they have won the national title for the 10th consecutive occasion. Altogether they were champions 15 times (first in 1970).
• Recco is a club of records. They are going for a record-breaking 8th title here – now they are tied with Mladost (CRO) and Partizan (SRB) at 7 apiece. However, taking the silvers into account, Recco is in top with 13 appearances in the finals (7-time winner, 6-time runner-up). Recco’s first triumph came 50 years ago, in 1965, and followed by wins in 1984, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012.
• This is Recco’s 11th appearance in the Final Six/Four since 2003 (twice they didn’t enter the competition), made the last stage more than any other clubs since the Final Four/Six format was inaugurated in 1997. On the previous 10 occasions they won 5 times, were runners-up 3 times, once they came 3rd and once 6th (last year). Between 2006 and 2012 Recco played 7 straight finals, winning 4 and losing 3.
• Just as Barceloneta, Recco is absolutely superior back home, they won their 10th consecutive championships title (exactly like Barceloneta in Spain). Recco has 29 titles under its belt, the first came in 1960.
• Recco has a single defeat in the entire season: they lost 7-6 to Brescia in the Italian league, in the 8th round of the regular season on 6 December 2014. In fact only their local arch-rivals came the closest at other occasions, in Brescia Recco escaped with a 6-5 win in the Champions League prelims and won 3-2 in the penalty-shootout after a 10-10 draw in the second leg of the final.
• Besides posting a perfect score-sheet (10-0-0 – and 5 more wins in the qualification), Recco scored the most goals in the prelims (129) and conceded the least goals (68).
• Recco’s strength also lies in their team-efforts: six players netted 10+ goals, more than in any other teams in the prelims. This can be his 6th Champions League win which would equal the legendary Serbian, Djordje Perisic’s feat who also won 6 titles with Partizan between 1964 and 1976. 29/05/2015 - El CN Atlètic—Barceloneta acarició por segundo año consecutivo la gran final de la Final Six pero una discutida exclusión a 15 segundos del final de Felipe Perrone en la defensa de boya propició el gol definitivo de Pro Recco italiano (11—12) por medio de Pijetlovic. El gran favorito en las apuestas fue a remolque del equipo español, que volvió a hacer un enorme waterpolo con un López—Pinedo espectacular en la puerta. Como mínimo mereció los penalties. Jugarán por el "bronce".
Inicio inesperado con un CN Atlètic-Barceloneta decidido a llevar la iniciativa en el juego y en el marcador y que ha querido imponer su alto ritmo de juego desde el principio. Prueba de ello han sido los goles de un Roger Tahull cada vez más protagonista y de Felipe Perrone a pase directo de Dani López Pinedo, calcado a uno que marcó ayer ya el brasileño. Un tanto del serbio Pijetlovic acercaba a los italianos, pero de nuevo Perrone, de disparo ajustado, ponía dos arriba a los marineros (3-1). Antes del final del periodo, Giorgetti hacía el 3-2.
Segundo cuarto frenético. El partido seguía a un nivel de intensidad brutal, lo que seguía beneficiando a los hombres de Chus Martín. A pesar del parcial inicial de 0-2 con las dianas de Pijetlovic y del mejor jugador del mundo 2014 Filip Filipovic, el conjunto barcelonés encadenaba tres goles de forma consecutiva para ponerse otra vez dos arriba. Ubovic, desde la misma línea de gol, Perrone por partida doble (cuatro dianas de cinco lanzamientos) eran los autores. El gol de Filipovic recortaba de nuevo diferencias, pero Chalo Echenique estrenaba su casillero para dejar el resultado en 7-5 al descanso.

Chalo Echenique: "Peleamos ante un gran equipo"
29/05/2015 - Caras largas en los jugadores del CN Atlètic—Barceloneta instantes después de que finalizara la segunda semifinal de la Final Six de waterpolo entre el equipo marinero y el Pro Recco italiano. No era para menos, pues habían tenido una magnífica oportunidad de arrebar a los transalpinos una plaza en la final que se daba prácticamente por hecho que tenían asegurada. Chalo Echenique, uno de los mejores en los de Chus Martín, ha atenido a los micrófonos de la RFEN.
"Obviamente uno perdiendo una semifinal no se puede ir contento, pero la verdad es que le plantamos cara a un gran equipo y yo creo que lo perdemos por un detalle del final, por una expulsión más que nos pitan, una más de todo el partido. Creo que nos han castigado mucho con las expulsiones y nos ha tocado perder hoy. Una auténtica lástima", aseguraba el waterpolista argentino.
Los precedentes de este curso ante Pro Recco no eran nada halagüeños, pero aún así el Barceloneta ha cuajado un sensacional partido, jugando de tú a tú a un equipo con un potencial tremendo: "Sabíamos que no iba a ser un partido igual a los que jugamos en la fase de grupos. Estábamos convencidos de que estaría parejo, nuestra intención obviamente era pasar a la final, pero lamentablemente no se pudo dar". A pesar de no poder luchar por el título, el conjunto marinero irá a por la medalla de bronce: "Por supuesto, intentaremos ganar a JUG. La gente ha estado increíble y creo que tenemos que intentar por todos los medios vencer mañana por ellos, porque se merecen esa alegría".

L’Atlètic-Barceloneta perd amb el Recco (11-10) (BTV)
"Un protagonista extern no ens ha deixat lluitar per la final.". Amb aquestes paraules definien els jugadors de l'Atlètic-Barceloneta la derrota que han tingut davant el Pro Recco. Els mariners han plantat cara a un dels grans favorits per aconseguir la Final Six, però una decisió polèmica dels àrbitres ha significat la derrota de l'actual campió i que demà hagin de lluitar pel tercer lloc contra el Jug Dubrovnik. La final la disputaran el Pro Recco i el Primorje Rijeka.

Final Six: VK Primorje Rijeka, primer finalista
29/05/2015 - El VK Primorje Rijeka croata es el primer finalista de la Final Six 2015 de Waterpolo tras imponerse a sus compatriotas del JUG Dubrovnik por 9—10. Gran espectáculo de waterpolo en las piscines Picornell con dos auténticos pesos pesados del waterpolo europeo que al final se ha decantado por el equipo en el que juega el español Xavi García y que ya ganó al propio JUG la semana pasada en la final de la Liga croata después de cinco partidos.
Igualdad y mucho equilibrio en los primeros ocho minutos. No ha decepcionado para nada el inicio de partido, en el que el JUG Dubrovnik ha logrado adelantarse por medio del australiano Aaron Younger. Los goles se han ido sucediendo y Setka nivelaba en uno de más para Primorje. Buslje, que ya cuajó una gran actuación en cuartos ante Eger, ha marcado el 2-1, pero ha visto como Sukno hacía subir el empate a dos de tiro lejano con el que llegaba el choque al final del primer periodo.
El duelo se ha mantenido al rojo vivo en el segundo periodo. Se notaba que era la undécima vez que se veían las caras esta temporada los dos conjuntos croatas, que han librado una gran batalla. JUG llegaba al descanso con una ligera ventaja (5-4) gracias a los goles de Janovic, por partida doble, y de Boskovic. Por el bando de los de Ivan Asic, el español García Gade de gran zurdazo y Muslim han sido los autores de los tantos.
FINAL CRUEL CON GOL A FALTA DE SIETE SEGUNDOS
Tercer Periodo para un VK Primorje que ha dado un paso al frente en estos terceros ocho minutos. Muslim, uno de los destacados en el bando de los de Asic, ha hecho subir el empate a cinco nada más empezar, pero dos goles seguidos de Boskovic, desde cinco metros y de tiro lejano, han dado la vuelta al resultado y han devuelto las esperanzas a los de Dubrovnik. Aún así, ha vuelto a aparecer Muslim para poner la igualada (7-7) y un tanto de Sukno (criado en Dubrovnik y ex del JUG) sobre la misma bocina han hecho que los de Rijeka encararan el tramo decisivo uno arriba.
El rumano Alexandru Radu ponía por primera vez en todo el partido dos goles por delante a Primorje. Aún así, el sufrimiento estaba asegurado en una Picornell con mucho colorido en las gradas en el derbi croata. Macan hacía subir el 9-8 para los de Kobescal, pero un entonado Sukno (cuatro de los 10 goles de su equipo los ha marcado él) volvía a alejar a Primorje. Janovic daba emoción con su tercera diana del choque, pero no han sido capaces de forzar los penaltis los de Dubrovnik, que han caído con honor 9-10.

Final Six: Intenso duelo magiar, ganó Eger 8—7
29/05/2015 - El ZF Eger se impuso por 8—7 al Szolnoki VSK en un gran duelo magiar por la quinta plaza de la Final Six 2015 que celebra su segunda jornada en las piscines Picornell de Barcelona como antesala de las semifinales del día. Un gol de Hosnyánszky a dos minutos para el final le dio el triunfo al Eger ante el rival de ayer del Atlètic —Barceloneta, con el que forzó incluso los penalties.
Buen aspecto en las gradas y nutrida presencia de aficionados húngaros, a pesar de tratarse de un quinto y sexto puesto, para ver en directo el derbi entre ZF Eger y Szolnoki. Comenzaban mucho más entonados los jugadores de Dabrowski, que lograban un parcial de 3-0 (Biros, Vapenski y Angyal) con el que ponían muy cuesta abajo las cosas para sus interesas. Después de estrellar dos balones en el travesaño, Szolnoki conseguía reducir distancias por medio de Vamos.
EL GOL DE HOSNYANSZKY, CLAVE AL FINAL
Ha cambiado el panorama en los segundos ocho minutos, en los que el Szolnoki ha puesto una marcha más y ha logrado equilibrar las fuerzas. El tanto de Denes Varga despertaba a los de Sándor Cseh, que, a pesar de ver como un zurdazo de Vapenski les volvía a poner dos abajo (4-2), se rehacían con dos dianas seguidas de Varga, de nuevo, y Mansik para dejar el marcador en 4-4 al descanso.
Muy animado ha sido el tercer periodo. Aunque corría el minuto cuatro y aún no se había visto ningún gol, el encuentro se ha animado de golpe con el 5-4 de Szivos que deshacía el empate. Varga, uno de los destacados hoy, Szivos, Hosnyanszky y Daniel Varga engordaban el electrónico y dejaban el 7-6 con ocho minutos por disputarse. El gol de Denes Varga (cuatro ha anotado) colocaba el empate a siete, pero a dos minutos para el final Hosnyanszky ponía por delante a Eger. Un gol que sería definitivo.

Chus Martín: "El triunfo nos carga de moral"
28/05/2015 - Seguramente no es el triunfo que mejor le haya sentado a la salud de Chus Martín, pero sin duda sí ha sido uno de esos que saben especialmente bien. Y no es para menos, puesto que su equipo alcanza por segundo año consecutivo las semifinales de la Champions League. Esta vez, con una dosis de sufrimiento muy elevada después de lograrlo en la tanda de penaltis y tras empatar en el tiempo reglamentario contra el Szolnoki húngaro (6—6).
"Sabíamos que sería un partido en el que tendríamos que sufrir mucho para ganar. Pienso que hemos defendido muy bien a lo largo de los tres primeros cuartos, hemos hecho un gran trabajo y quizás en el último periodo nos hemos deshinchado un poco y eso ha provocado que nos remontaran esos tres goles que llevábamos de ventaja", aseguraba el técnico marinero, aún con las puslaciones aceleradas en la zona mixta.
Mañana espera un hueso aún más duro de roer para el conjunto barcelonés, un Pro Recco que quedó primero del grupo del CN Atlètic-Barceloneta, quien cayó derrotado en las dos ocasiones que se vieron las caras. "Hoy nos hemos enfrentado a un equipo muy duro y el de mañana todavía lo será más. Además, ellos llegan descansados después de no jugar hoy, por lo que nuestras opciones pasan por defender y trabajar como lo hemos hecho ante Szolnoki, o incluso más, e intentar anular en la medida de lo que podamos a su ataque".
"Está claro que jugar en casa y ante nuestra gente nos da un plus y eso hoy la grada nos lo ha transmitido. Sin duda, ganar de la forma que lo hemos hecho, sufriendo y por penaltis, también nos carga de moral para afrontar la cita de mañana. Creo que a los jugadores les vendrá de maravilla, ha sido muy importante para nosotros acceder a semifinales. A partir de ahora intentaremos disfrutar al máximo lo que nos queda y poner todo de nuestra parte para estar en la final y ganar el título", aseveraba un Martín que, no olvidemos, se encuentra en su segunda temporada al mando del CNAB.

L'Atlètic-Barceloneta s'ha classificat per a les semifinals de la Final Six després de superar el Szolnoki a la tanda de penals per (10-9). Al final del partit el resultat ha estat d'empat a 6, després que l'equip hongarès hagi fet un parcial de 0 a 3 en l'últim quart. En semifinals, els de Chus Martín s'enfrontaran al gran favorit, el Pro Recco italià. L'altra semifinal, la disputaran els croats del Jug Dubrovnik i el Rijeka
Final Six: El CNAB, a semifinales por penalties
28/05/2015 - El CN Atlètic—Barceloneta se ha clasificado para las semifinales de la Final Six 2015 que se está celebrando en las Picornell al imponerse al Szolnoki húngaro por penalties 10—9 (6—6) en un encuentro titánico que ganaban los locales por 6—3 pero en el que los magiares acabaron empatando (6—6). Los hombres de Chus Martín se enfrentarán por un puesto en la final ante el poderoso Pro Recco italiano (19.30h), mientras que el 5º y 6º puesto lo dilucidarán ZF Eger y Szolnoki VKS húngaros.
Ha comenzado bien el equipo barcelonés. El conjunto anfitrión ha entrado en el partido muy enchufado y ha sido un jugador de la casa, Marc Minguell, quien ha abierto la lata para los marineros. No ha tardado demasiado el equipo de Chus Martín en colocarse dos arriba gracias al zurdazo en superioridad de Chalo Echenique. Quedaban tocados los húngaros, que aún así han recortado por medio de Vamos y han tenido una última ocasión que López Pinedo ha sacado magistralmente.
Con una parada tremenda de Viktor Nagy en una jugada de uno de más del CN Atlètic-Barceloneta se ha iniciado el segundo periodo. Cuando quedaban unos cinco minutos, se ha producido una jugada clave y marca de la casa con parada de Dani López y contraataque rapidísimo que ha ejecutado Felipe Perrone solo ante Nagy. El tanto desde boya de Ubovic ponía el 4-1 y encendía a la grada, que animaba claramente a los anfitriones. El 4-2 de Madaras ha dado esperanzas a los húngaros antes del descanso.
LOS HÚNGAROS REMONTAN TRES GOLES EN EL ÚLTIMO CUARTO
Magnífico tercer cuarto del equipo de Chus Martín, que ha logrado ampliar y conservar su ventaja, dando un paso de gigante para enfrentarse mañana en semifinales al Pro Recco italiano. Marc Roca ha hecho subir el 5-2, mientras que el balcánico Aleksic ha respondido con el 5-3. El joven Roger Tahull se ha estrenado en el choque con una diana preciosa y vital (6-3), que ha precedido a unos minutos en los que los anfitriones han sabido contener las ofensivas húngaras. Ocho minutos para pensar en la siguiente ronda.
Último periodo de infarto con un CN Atlètic-Barceloneta que ha dejado escapar tres goles de ventaja y ha cedido ante las acometidas de un Szolnoki que lo ha bordado en estos últimos ocho minutos. Vamos, en uno de más, y un doblete de Madaras, sublime con su potente zurda, han hecho que la eliminatoria haya tenido que marcharse a los penaltis. Los marineros han dejado escapar varias superioridades e incluso Dani López Pinedo ha parado un remate sobre la bocina. La lotería de los penaltis ha favorecido al conjunto marinero (4-3) con un penalti decisivo marcado por el brasileño Felipe Perrone y una decisiva parada anterior con la cara de Pinedo a Madaras.

JUG Dubrovnik gana al ZF Eger húngaro (8—10)
28/05/2015 - El JUG Dubrovnik croata ha ganado al ZF Eger húngaro en la primera semifinal de la Final Six 2015 de Waterpolo Masculino que ha arrancado esta tarde en las piscines Picornell de Barcelona. Los croatas se han impuesto por 8—10 en un disputado partido. Con este triunfo, los hombres del JUG se enfrentarán en la primera semifinal del viernes (18.00h) a sus compatriotas de Primorje Rikeja mientras que el Eger espera rival por la quinta plaza del perdedor del CN At.—Barceloneta — Szolnoki.
Comenzaba el primer periodo con mucho respeto en ambos bandos y con un juego muy trabado. Aún así, el JUG Dubrovnik ha conseguido ponerse por delante en el marcador con un tanto desde boya de Buslje. El conjunto croata llevaba la iniciativa en el marcador y sobre la piscina, mientras que Eger chocaba una y otra vez contra la defensa balcánica. Nikola Janovic aprovechaba una jugada en superioridad para anotar el 0-2. A punto de llegar al final de los primeros ocho minutos, Cuckovic recortaba diferencias para los húngaros (1-2).
Misma tónica en un segundo cuarto con poco ritmo goleador, pero con mucha intensidad y tensión. Después de tres minutos sin que se moviera el marcador, Vapenski empataba para Eger con un disparo lejano imposible de parar para Bijac. Pero han reaccionado de forma fulgurante los jugadores de Kobescal con dos dianas seguidas de Boskovic, en superioridad, y Buslje, desde boya y tras jugada colectiva. Antes de que finalizara el periodo, y como pasara en el primer cuarto, anotaba el conjunto húngaro, esta vez por medio de Szvivos (3-4).
JUG HA CONTROLADO EL RESULTADO EN TODO MOMENTO
Más de cinco minutos ha estado el marcador sin moverse tras el descanso, en los que se han producido contrafaltas y pérdidas una tras otra. Un paradón de Mitrovic a disparo de Janovic ha animado el encuentro. Obradovic ha marcado el 3-5 para JUG de penalti y los goles se han sucedido hasta el final del tercer cuarto. Vapenski y Hosnyanszky para los húngaros y Obradovic, de disparo seco, y Buslje, con su tercer gol, han dejado el resultado en 5-7 antes de los últimos ocho minutos.
Después del gol de Ivankovic, un parcial de 2-0 ( Cuk y Biros) para ZF Eger hacía saltar las alarmas en el bando croata, que ha conseguido ponerse dos arriba de nuevo gracias al australiano Younger. No se ha dado por vencido el equipo de Dabrowski, que se ha colocado a uno otra vez por medio de Szivos. El gol del canadiense Constantin Bicari a poco más de 1’ para el final ha sentenciado prácticamente el partido. Habrá semifinal croata entre VK Primorje y JUG Dubrovnik.

La Final Six, presentada en el Museo Olímpico
27/05/2015 - El Museu Olímpic de l Esport de Barcelona ha sido el escenario ideal para dar comienzo a la Final Six 2015 con la rueda de prensa oficial de presentación del que es el gran acontecimiento internacional anual de waterpolo y que desde este jueves, y hasta el sábado 30, tendrá lugar en las Piscines Bernat Picornell de la ciudad condal.
“Llevamos muchos años luchando para que Barcelona se haga un nombre en el mundo del deporte. El CN Atlètic-Barceloneta es un ejemplo claro de ese afán por seguir mejorando y por seguir situando en el mapa el deporte barcelonés”, aseguraba la gerente del Institut Barcelona Esports, Iolanda Latorre.
El presidente del conjunto anfitrión, el CN Atlètic-Barceloneta, Julián García, ha querido recalcar la importancia para el club y para la ciudad de volver a organizar un evento así: “Quiero dar las gracias al Ayuntamiento por su colaboración para organizar un acontecimiento de esta índole; también a las federaciones catalana y española, a los sponsors, empezando por Fluidra, a los voluntarios por su dedicación, a los medios por su difusión, a todos. Trabajamos para que sea un éxito como en la pasada edición; hemos pasado de un evento de club a un evento de ciudad”.
“Estamos trabajando para hacer que la Final Six sea un gran producto deportivo y para mejorar todos los aspectos de marketing y de difusión que una competición como esta necesita. Queremos crecer y sin duda se ha dado un paso al frente con innovaciones como el seguimiento audiovisual de la competición desde nuestra web (entrevistas, play by play, etc.). Hay más de 100 periodistas acreditados y Teledeporte va a ofrecer en directo todos los partidos”, ha afirmado Marco Birri, Director Deportivo de LEN.
LOS TÉCNICOS, SEGUROS DE SUS POSIBILIDADES
Acto seguido, ha llegado el turno de los protagonistas sobre la piscina, los entrenadores de los seis equipos que participarán en la Final Six 2015. Igor Milanovic, entrenador de Pro Recco, está convencido de que “no serán partidos fáciles, sin duda, nos conocemos todos los equipos muy bien. Por supuesto, venimos a ganar”. Ivan Asic, técnico de VK Primorje, ha asegurado que “Recco es el gran favorito, pero no siempre los favoritos acaban ganando. Es muy difícil predecir nada y no tengo preferencias”.
“Es nuestra primera vez en la Final Six como equipo, pero nuestros jugadores tienen mucha experiencia. Creo que nos da igual quien sea el rival, vamos a darlo todo”, ha comentado el entrenador del Szolnoki, Istvan Lukacs. El otro equipo húngaro (ZF Eger), en palabras de su entrenador, Norbert Dabrowski, no quiere “parar ahora, hemos esperado 10 años para estar aquí, el año pasado nos dijimos, desde la grada, que estaríamos aquí y hemos cumplido”.
El técnico del JUG Dubrovnik, Viekoslav Kobescak, ha comentado que “Eger será un conjunto muy difícil de defender, pero tendremos nuestras opciones, seguro. Todos, los seis equipos, tienen posibilidades de ganar”. Por último, Chus Martín, preparador del conjunto anfitrión, el CN Atlètic-Barceloneta, ha comentado que “repetir el título es muy difícil para nosotros. Creo que la defensa es muy importante, en el primer partido es vital ganar para seguir en liza, aun sabiendo que Szolnoki es un equipo difícil de batir”.

Final Six preview - Szolnok
It all looked to go exactly as planned. Szolnok not only led the domestic championship in dominant fashion but also had established them as best team in group B of the 10-round Champions League prelims. The desired top spot that would give them direct qualification to the Final Six semifinals. It all turned out different though and not until the very last match. Primorje did what was necessary by beating the Hungarians by 2 goals (9-7), just that single goal they needed to overtake Szolnok on goal difference and claim that spot and semifinals berth. The little disappointment however was erased several weeks later as Szolnok cruised through the domestic play-offs and completed a clean sweep of OSC 3-0 in the finals to claim the national championship of Hungary. Their first since 1964!
Indeed it was not until sponsor Dózsa-KÖZGÉP stepped in that Szolnok quickly developed in a powerhouse squad and after last summer's transfer of the Varga brothers and Norbert Madaras, local fans knew that this could become their year. So far it has been but the team's ambition is not limited to results within Hungary. That chapter now awaits as Szolnok is set to square off against Final Six hosts Barceloneta. A second chance for the Varga brothers who were on the Primorje team that were eliminated by the hosts and later winners Barceloneta in the semifinals of last year's edition, also held in the Bernat Picornell pool. They will certainly acknowledge the danger of facing the home team as Barceloneta last year went on to win their first Champions League eliminating favourites Primorje and Radnicki. However looking at the results during the preliminary phase of Europe's top-tiier competition Szolnok can regarded favourites. They started off by topping Primorje 13-12 on day 1 at home and until the last round only suffered 1 loss, to Jug on day 4: 11-9, before Primorje turned things around on day 10. In between only the second meeting with Jug, at home, was a close one as a late foul by youngster Ante Viskovic caused Szolnok to gain an ultimate 8-7 victory.
The match-up marks the only of two quarterfinals featuring two national champions. The winner of the encounter between group A's 3rd seed and number 2 of group B (Szolnok) faces red-hot favourites Pro Recco in the semifinals on Friday. First up however is the challenging quarterfinals in which the Hungarian defence will have to try to stop Spanish scoring sensation Albert Español who proved a plague for the opposing defences during last year's Final Six and this season remained Barceloneta's top scorer. Szolnok defender Milan Aleksic is likely to meet fellow Serb Nemanja Ubovic as Barceloneta's centre-forward, two players who know each other from their Serbian national team joint training. Meanwhile for Barceloneta attention should go out to Szolnok's left-side duo of Denes Varga and Stefan Mitrovic, two of the team's premier scorer who proved to be able to play along just fine this season as they created tremendous danger off that left side in attack, likely to cause trouble for the hosts. Meanwhile both lefties Marton Vamos and veteran Norbert Madaras make waves on the right side, backed by Serbian captain Zivko Gocic who could be the key in trying to stop Español from another high-scoring effort. And there's the story of the goalies. Both Hungarian national team goalkeepers are playing for Szolnok this season as head coach Sandor Cseh rotates in giving each their playing time. Both are known for their incredible talent but also the inconstancy. If however the starting goalie looks to be a zone early on in the game each of them are very tough to be beat.

Europe’s six best sides will take part in a three-day showcase in Barcelona to decide who captures this year’s Champions League title. Three teams are returning to the Final Six from last season (Barceloneta - ESP, Recco - ITA, Rijeka - CRO) while three are new (Jug - CRO, Eger - HUN, Szolnok - HUN), though only the two Hungarians are the real rookies in this tournament. Recco can go for a record-breaking 8th title.
At the opening press conference – held as usual in the magnificent Olympic Museum on the Montjuic – the city’s representative, Iolanda Latorre and Barceloneta’s President Julian Garcia welcomed all participants and the guests. They both emphasised how important this event is for Barcelona, the city, which is always happy to stage great aquatic competitions.
LEN Vice-President Dimitris Diathesopoulos paid thanks to the municipality of Barcelona and the club of Barceloneta to organise the Final Six for the second year and was also grateful for all sponsors supporting the most prestigious and important European water polo club competition. He added that Barcelona was always a brilliant host of outstanding aquatic festivals, including the World Championships in 2003 and 2013, a Final Four already in 2008, the first two editions of the Final Six and another huge show is in sight when the European Water Polo Championships will take place here in 2018.
LEN Sports&Office Manager Marco Birri proudly announced that LEN’s long-term plan with the Champions League had been executed really well so far, mostly thanks to the participating clubs who agreed to cooperate according to the new demands. “We’ve improved the level and the presentation of water polo a lot” Mr Birri acknowledged. “Now we have a credible product to be sold in the world’s sport market and we see the numbers growing constantly. Last season we had more than 1.2 million people staying tuned for the Champions League and we expect much higher number this year since we launched the new live-scoring system and a connecting application.”

Igor Milanovic, head-coach of Recco (ITA) – he won the title as a player and as a coach already – says that while his team is considered the favourite, this tournament features the six best teams of the world. “All games are going to be tight, the quarters, the semis and the final as well, but of course, Recco has come here to win, but this is something everyone got used to in this club.” In fact, Recco can become the first club in history with 8 titles – now they are tied with 7 with Partizan (SRB) and Mladost (CRO).
The other group winning side, Rijeka (CRO) looks for the gold after earning a silver and a bronze on their first two tries, as their coach Ivan Asic puts it: “Recco is held the favourite but in these tournaments not always the favourites win. We are looking for making at least the final and preferably win this time. But as Igor said, the six best teams are here so everything is possible.”
Zoltan Kosz, assistant coach of Szolnok (HUN) thinks that even though the new Hungarian champion is a newcomer to the Final Six, “our players are very experienced, most of them play in the biggest tournaments at international level year by year. To start against the host and title-holder Barceloneta means just the same challenge as to play against anybody else, as all teams are outstanding here.”
Fellow Hungarian coach, Norbert Dabrowski of Eger says that even though the club and their city waited for ten years to reach the Final Six (they had 7 unsuccessful attempts beforehand), they don’t think that their target has been reached. “We want more, to go as far as possible here. After missing the championships final at home and finishing only bronze medallist, our fans would only be satisfied if here we earn at least the silver medal… But our goal has never changed in fact: we always try to win the next game.”

Final Six preview - Primorje
At the expense of Szolnok it was Primorje who finished off the Champions League preliminary stage in ultimate successful fashion as they topped their group B rivals at home 9-7 to grab the top spot and direct Final Six semifinals qualification on the final day (10) of the group stage. It marked the start of the decisive stage of the season with the squad from Rijeka, Croatia having already succeeded in part 1, defending their Croatian national crown. But they were driven to the maximum by domestic rivals Jug. In the 5th game at home though an 11-8 victory sealed the deal after both sides had met for the Regional league trophy earlier in the season, also won by Primorje, this time 15-9. Perhaps the best is yet to come for head coach Ivan Asic and his men. They will watch the quarterfinals on Thursday with great interest to learn and see who will be the opponent in the semifinal. The stage where things went wrong last year. After also coming in as title favourites home side Barceloneta upset the Croatian squad in the semis as they had to settle for 3rd place instead. Not what Primorje had come for. A chance for revenge is here.
Despite another favourite role things will be again be tough for Primorje. They could meet domestic rivals Jug once more facing the winner of the cross-over meeting between Hungarian 3rd seed ZF-Eger and Jug. And opposite to knowing Jug very, very well, Eger will be relatively new to the team as they played in the other group and the sides did not meet on another occasion this season. With the Hungarian squad reinforced quite well during last summer, they're nothing like the Eger squad of last year. But as more and more water polo is streamed and televised, the Primorje technical staff is expected to have done their job ahead of travelling to Barcelona for the Final Six, despite just a week ago the gruelling Croatian finals series was concluded.
Taking that into account, the 'extra' day of rest could well benefit Primorje, although some players like to maintain a rhythm of playing more than once every week. The question will be whether Primorje is able to take its recent form out of the domestic play-offs into this Final Six. In case they can, the Croatians can be regarded as absolute title-favourites and rightfully so are already sure of the semifinals. But the season has been a long and tough one and with veteran players such as Antonio Petrovic in the squad, it remains to be seen how fatigued the squad is after the opening whistle of their semifinal clash on Friday. As Petrovic is a defender, he marks the most important part of the team this tournament. Because despite Primorje's fantastic line-up on offence, playing in the Final Six for the title will need a similar stellar defensive job to make it all the way. It certainly will be the key for Primorje, if not in the semis, then in the final for sure.

Sandro Sukno is back on full force after a relatively quiet last season, also plagued by injuries and illness. Sukno was the regional league top scorer and led Primorje on offence in the domestic play-offs finals series versus his former longtime club Jug. Second standout is centre-forward Cosmin Radu. Single-handedly led Primorje to the ultimate 2-goal victory over Szolnok to capture the top spot in group B qualifying for the Champions League Final Six semifinals and ever-dangerous not only on the centre-forward position but also in man-up situations for his Croatian employer.
Honourable mention: Petar Muslim and Xavi Garcia. Two erratic players but this season once more proved their value for Primorje. For Garcia the Final Six like last year will be a special occasion returning to his home country where his former club Barceloneta hosts the event. When both will be able to continue their recent fine form, Primorje's attack will be even more versatile and tough to stop.

26/05/2015 - En tres días las Piscines Bernat Picornell volverán a ser el escenario del mejor waterpolo de clubs de Europa. Los días 28, 29 y 30 de mayo se celebrará la LEN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL SIX con los seis mejores equipos de la máxima categoría de competición de Europa: Pro Recco (ITA), VK Primorje Rijeka (CRO), ZF Eger (HUN), Jug Dubrovnik (CRO), Szolnoki VSK (HUN) y el anfitrión y actual campeón de Europa, el CN Atlètic—Barceloneta.
Para dar el disparo de salida a la competición y presentar a todos los protagonistas, mañana miércoles a las 17.00h se celebrará una rueda de prensa de presentación de la LEN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL en el Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport de Barcelona (Avinguda de l’Estadi, 60). A esta presentación asistirán las entidades políticas y deportivas implicadas en la competición, así como también los entrenadores de los seis equipos participantes.
Será el preludio a una Final Six que el jueves, a las 18.00h, abrirá el telón con el primer partido de cuartos de final (ZF Eger-JUG Dubrovnik); después, a las 19.30h, será el turno del CN Atlètic-Barceloneta-Szolnoki.

Final Six preview - Atlètic Barceloneta
The defending champions. Up for their ultimate goal this season in an environment that is likely to expect even more than last season. Ironically though, Barceloneta's role coming into this year's Champions League Final Six tournament may be the same as in the 2014 edition. However, the results during the preliminary phase of the Champions League last season were simply better. Here, the Spanish champs were quick to silence the critics who claimed it was too easy to grand the host of the Champions League Final Six an automatic berth but still let them participate during the prelims. Barceloneta proved to be a dangerous opponent and clearly put themselves in the top of the standings, among Europe's best. But they did it without having won Europe's premier club competition a single time. So coming in the 2014 inaugural Final Six at home in Barcelona, Barceloneta was considered a dangerous outsider. Well, we all know what happened and what dangerous outsiders are capable of doing.
In that perspective things are different this year. While Barceloneta managed to keep their team from last season intact, others weren't silent and so the Champions League field changed dramatically. And in parallel to the domestic season not being as dominated as the year before, Barceloneta struggled in the first half of the prelims in the strong group A where Pro Recco proved the unbeaten leader. Two draws and two losses saw Barceloneta in the lower ranks of the group after 4 rounds of play before they struck back on day 5 beating Olympiacos in Greece 7-9. And after doing so again, this time 12-8 at home the following round things all of a sudden looked different for the Chus Martin coached side. In the remainder of the prelims the results went back and forth. Pro Recco once again dominated the reigning champions but Radnicki, until then in Final Six contention, were beaten 9-7 at home on day 8. As positive as that result was, as dissapointing was the finish of the 10-round preliminary stage. Brescia rolled past the defending champions 12-4 on day 9 followed by an 11-6 loss to Eger (who therewith clinched the last Final Six berth) in Hungary on day 10.
The focus of the team for that moment though was at the domestic play-offs where another national title was to be secured. In simply dominant fashion Barceloneta rolled to their 15th total and 10th consecutive Spanish championship as an excellent build-up to the Champions League Final Six at home where another trophy is to be defended. For the last time in their hometown as the Final Six travels further to another 2-year stint in a different city, for the 2016 and 2017 edition being Hungary's capital Budapest.
'Winning trophies is one, defending them is the hardest part', a popular saying says. Absolutely the case for Barceloneta this year. Their quarterfinal match-up on day 1 of the event will be against Hungarian champions Szolnok, longtime leaders of group B before that top spot was taken over by Primorje in round 10 winning a head-to-head match-up 9-7. Szolnok is Hungary's powerhouse this year. As expected the national championship was captured but the club's ambitions, looking at the incredible roster, lie beyond and focus also on the European crown. And as much a Spanish team would favour a draw against an Hungarian team over a more physical Serbian or Croatian side, Szolnok's line-up is bolstered by three Serbian national team members in Zivko Gocic, Milan Aleksic and Stefan Mitrovic, each fulfulling important roles. It means a tough but important task is up for the pair of Barceloneta centre-forwards in fellow Serb Nemanja Ubovic and Hungary-born Balazs Sziranyi who were on the Final Six winning team last season and over the course of this year provided more and more solid offence, much needed against the Hungarian/Serbian defence of Szolnok. If they manage to draw the necessary attention from the opponent's defence, Barceloneta's quick and outside players in Albert Espñol, Gonzalo Echenique, Felipe Perrone and even defender Marc Minguell will come into play.
And let's not underestimate the power of playing at home. It proved vital last year as Barceloneta was boosted when making a strong play and clearly used the fans to continue their strong run towards the trophy beating favourite sides such as Primorje (semifinals) and Radnicki (final). Indeed, the more physical Croatian and Serbian teams. On that Primorje roster were the Varga brothers Daniel and Denes, this season playing for Szolnok who face a familar situation as the hosts will the opponent once more, only this time in the quarterfinals already. Final Six preview - Jug
Two of the most fatigued sides present in Barcelona for the Champions League finale this week are coming from Croatia where both Primorje and Jug needed a decisive 5th game in their play-offs finals series to determine the Croatian champion, as Primorje won the last encounter 11-8 to capture their 2nd straight national title last Thursday. For Jug it means a runners-up position in this year's domestic championship, already an improvement on last season's disappointing play-offs semifinal elimination vs. Mladost. And although the Vjekoslav Kobescak coached side put up a great fight in that final series, as they came back to tie at 1-1 and 2-2, Jug fell just short of that much desired major trophy.
The second one is up for grabs in Barcelona starting Thursday. The Croatian powerhouse, looking for their first Champions League trophy since the third and so far last success back in 2006, will have exactly one week to recuperate as Hungarian number three ZF-Eger awaits in an interesting quarterfinal battle to open up the Final Six tournament in the Bernat Picornell pool on Thursday. Interesting because both sides are expected to be well levelled being considered outsiders for the title. For Jug much will depend on how they will recover from the gruelling play-offs finals series. On the one hand their stellar play in these finals 4 extremely close games before Primorje finally struck in the 5th one at home, will boost the team's confidence and believe in what can be done in Barcelona. On the other hand and extremely busy season with action in the Regional league up until the final, the domestic cup and Champions League will certainly takes its toll. And Jug still plays without the provisionally suspended centre-forward Niksa Dobud. He will be missed in Barcelona where now Canadian centre-forward Nicolas Constantin-Bicari and even Nikola Janovic at times will have to fill in to their maximum in order to give the squad its much needed presence in the center position in attack.
But how did Jug performance went in the preliminary phase? Quite well actually. Just the fact that in group B three heavy favourites were drawn, and a one-time setback in Istanbul, resulted in a 3rd place. However results such as the 11-9 win at home over Szolnok and 9-6 victory vs. Primorje showed what the team is capable of. The 12-12 draw with Galatasaray in Istanbul on day 8 however cost Jug two valuable points in the race for the top spot in the group. As Primorje took that on the final day, they will enjoy one more day off being directly qualified for the semifinals. And for Jug a match-up with ZF-Eger is the one to focus on now. Sin tiempo apenas para digerir la décima Liga consecutiva conquistada hace cinco días, el Atlètic Barceloneta cambia el ‘chip’ para centrarse en el otro gran objetivo de la temporada: revalidar la Champions. El vigente campeón y anfitrión afronta la Final Six en las Piscinas Picornell (28-30 de mayo) con el hándicap de una temporada lastrada por las lesiones y ante unos rivales que han sabido reforzarse, pero tienen un punto fuerte y que les aventaja, el calor de su público, que según insisten los jugadores va a ser fundamental.
“Sabemos que este año será mucho más difícil que el anterior”, explica el capitán y portero del equipo catalán, Daniel López. “Los rivales nos conocen y vienen más alerta, ya no somos la revelación, no se van a relajar tanto como pasó el año pasado. Además, ¿cuantos equipos revalidan una Champions? Si miras el historial de cualquier deporte, cuesta encontrarlo”. A todo ello hay un equipo muy por encima del resto y que se presenta como claro favorito al cetro europeo: el Pro-Recco italiano. “Ha hecho un equipo ‘All Star’, pero todo puede pasar. El año pasado nadie apostaba por nosotros y acabamos ganando, así que esta vez ¿por qué no? Nos hemos preparado bien y, con el apoyo del público, vamos a intentarlo”.

Su compañero Albert Español, otro veterano del Barceloneta con seis temporadas como referente en ataque, le secunda en que el papel de la afición será clave: “Pido a la gente que venga a vernos. No saben bien cuánto vale su apoyo”. Albert explica que sentir el calor del público, de unas gradas llenas, te empuja más a ganar que cualquier otro factor. “Les pido que se acerquen a la piscina y nos ayuden a ganar partidos. Sabemos que coincide con la final de Copa del Rey -la final de waterpolo es el sábado a las 19.30h y la de fútbol, el mismo día a las 21.30h-, pero hay espacio para todos”.
“Ya sabemos que, aunque ganemos, la portada será par ellos...”, bromea el entrenador,Chus Martín. El técnico que ha llevado al Barceloneta a lo más alto ayudado por su hermano, David Martín, que ejerce de segundo entrenador, entiende que el waterpolo, pese ser un deporte arraigado en nuestro país, sigue ocupando un espacio menor en los medios, pero ve que crece de forma imparable. “Estos éxitos contribuyen a que se hable más de nosotros, a hacer grande este deporte, nosotros estamos orgullosos de nuestro trabajo”.
Chus Martín secunda a sus jugadores en que este año es más complicado, pero aquí nadie baja los brazos: “Llegamos a un gran nivel, muy preparados, habiendo ganado Liga, Copa y Supercopa de Europa”. Four Champions in Champions League Final Six
The final phase of the most important water polo club competition, that will feature the six best teams in Europe is in a sentence reflected in the final results of big leagues. On Saturday May 23, the national leagues were concluded of the participating teams in the Final Six Barcelona 2015. They reached the following results: 4 championships, one second place and one third place.
The first to win the league was Pro Recco on May 16. The Italian team won all three games of the play-offs finals against AN Brescia and gained their 29th "Scudetto", the tenth in a row. Great season for the team who signed this year big names as Ivovic, Prlainovic Filipovic and Pijetlovic. The team has remained unbeaten in all competitions in which it has participated, even in the preliminary phase of the Champions League.
The second one was Szolnoki Vizilabda Sport Club won the Hungarian League, after 50 years of drought. 3:0 in the final against OSC Újbuda.The other Hungarian team, ZF Eger, finished in third place after beating Ferencvaros 2:0 the best of 3 games.
Club Natació Atlètic-Barceloneta has done the same in the Spanish League. After qualifying second in the regular phase of the competition, the sailor team did not faced any heavy opposition in the play-offs for the title. 2:0 in the semifinals vs. CN Sabadell and 2:0 vs. CE Mediterrani in the finals resulted in their 15th league title, the tenth in a row. CNAB, current champion of Europe, has won two more titles this season, the Copa del Rey and the European Super Cup.

Fran Fernández: "Todo el mundo nos quiere ganar"
25/05/2015 - Casi 10 años después de su debut, Fran Fernández es una de las voces más autorizadas del vestuario del CN Atlètic Barceloneta. Desenvuelto y con desparpajo dentro y fuera del agua, Fernández vivirá su segunda Final Six con el equipo de sus amores e intentará volver a llevársela para sus vitrinas, aunque es consciente de que el camino que tiene el CNAB por delante es muy puntiagudo.
"Empieza una nueva edición con el hándicap de que todo el mundo te quiere ganar; hemos tenido una temporada difícil y es una presión añadida para nostros defender el título, pero a nosotros eso no nos pesa, vamos a jugar al 100% contra el campeón húngaro y a partir de ahí ya veremos qué pasa. Esta competición es así, el primer día tienes que ganar para seguir y si no te quedas fuera de las medallas. Vamos a ver qué pasa", nos comentaba el polivalente waterpolista del CN Atlètic Barceloneta de 28 años durante el acto de presentación oficial de la Final Six en las instalaciones de la entidad marinera.
Fran, además, hace una valoración de la fase de grupos de la máxima competición de clubes continental llevada a cabo por su equipo: "Nos hubiese gustado conseguir, como el año pasado, una plaza entre los tres primeros; estuvimos hasta el final luchando por el segundo puesto, que no pudimos lograr, y nos hubiera gustado quizás ser más regulares en nuestro juego. Ha habido partidos en casa que se nos han escapado al final y entonces nos ha dejado una sensación un tanto agridulce, pero bueno, ahora tenemos la oportunidad de terminar la temporada bien, vamos a darlo todo y a ver qué ocurre".

Inauguración del Espacio Final Six en Barcelona
22/05/2015 - Con motivo de la celebración de la Final Six de Waterpolo 2015, la Plaça del Portal de la Pau de Barcelona se llena de waterpolo. El próximo sábado 23 de mayo a las 12 horas se inaugurará el espacio que el Club Natació Atlètic—Barceloneta, entidad organizadora del evento por segundo año consecutivo, ha preparado para promocionar la fase final de la LEN Waterpolo Champions League Final Six en territorio del Port de Barcelona.
Torretas, paravientos y grandes lonas publicitarias vestirán la plaza durante la semana previa a la máxima competición continental de clubes. Además, se hará un graffiti en directo con imágenes de la Final Six Barcelona de la edición pasada.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Mayor for Quality of Life, Equality and Sports of the City Council of Barcelona, Maite Fandos, the Secretari General for Sport, Ivan Tibau, Vice President of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, Pere Robert, the director Fluidra communication, main sponsor of the event, Bea Strebl and President of the Atlètic-Barceloneta Swimming Club Julian Garcia and equipment CNAB.

The losers of the quarterfinals will play the games for 5th and 6th place while the winners will advan to the semifinals. Saturday 30 May will offer two courses: the match for the bronze medal and the final, with the title of 2015 European Champion at stake.
This morning was also presented the II Final Kids, child polo international competition organized by the CNAB and brings together 16 teams from 9 different European countries. Kids II Final will be played in the pool of Sant Sebastia (CN Atlètic-Barceloneta) and the Nova Escullera (CN Barcelona) on the 29th, 30 and 31 May, coinciding with the Final Six. It will be a great opportunity for young athletes to live in front the great festival of European water polo.

Barcelona centrarà l'atenció del waterpolo mundial el 28, 29 i 30 de maig, ja que acollirà la Final Six de la Lliga de Campions a les Piscines Bernat Picornell. L'Atlètic-Barceloneta n'és l'organitzador i a les instal·lacions del club se n'ha presentat la fase final.
El Atlètic Barceloneta ya prepara la defensa del título
Barcelona, EFE El Atlètic Barceloneta pondrá en juego el título de campeón de Europa, conquistado la temporada pasada, en la Final a Seis de la Liga de Campeones que, por segundo año consecutivo, se disputará en las Piscinas Bernat Picornell de Barcelona.
Del 28 al 30 de mayo próximos, el conjunto marinero volverá a ejercer de anfitrión en la fase final de una competición que se despide de la capital catalana, puesto que Budapest será la nueva sede los dos próximos años.
Los otros cinco equipos participantes son el Pro-Recco italiano, invicto en la Liga de Campeones y el favorito al título, los húngaros Eger y Szolnoki y los croatas Jug Dubrovnik y Primorje.
El sistema de competición estipula que los dos primeros clasificados de la ronda preliminar de la Liga de Campeones, que finalizó el pasado 2 de mayo después de diez jornadas, están clasificados directamente para las semifinales del viernes 29. Se trata del Pro-Recco, primero del Grupo A y el Primorje, primer clasificado en el Grupo B.
Sus rivales saldrán de los enfrentamientos de cuartos de final del jueves 28: Atlètic Barceloneta-Szolnoki y Eger-Jug Dubrovnik.
"Sé que es un tópico, pero nos equivocaríamos si pensásemos en una hipotética semifinal contra el Pro-Recco. Hay que estar cien por cien centrado solo en el choque de cuartos contra el Szolnoki, porque si no lo hacemos caeremos eliminados", ha declarado el meta Daniel López Pinedo, capitán del equipo español.
López Pinedo ha recordado el papel fundamental que jugó el público el año pasado, cuando el Atlètic Barceloneta levantó la primera Copa de Europa de su historia.
"Sentimos mucho su apoyo y fue una parte importante para lograr el objetivo de ganar nuestra primera Champions. Así que les pido lo mismo este año, que se acerquen a la piscina y que nos ayuden a ganar los partidos", ha apuntado.
La plantilla del Atlètic-Barceloneta que disputará esta Final a Seis se ha presentado hoy en la Piscina de Sant Sebastià, sede del club, en un acto que ha contado con la presencia de Ivan Tibau, secretario general del Deporte de la Generalitat, Maite Fandos, concejala de Deportes del ayuntamiento de Barcelona, y Pere Robert, vicepresidente de la Federación Española de Natación.
Todo ellos confían en que esta segunda Final a Seis de la Liga de Campeones de waterpolo vuelva a ser un éxito de público y organización como lo fue la del año pasado, pese a que muchos partidos tuvieron que disputarse bajo una intensa lluvia.
El acto también ha servido para presentar la segunda edición de la Kids Final, una campeonato internacional infantil que se disputará paralelamente a la Final a Seis en las instalaciones del CN Barcelona y el Atlètic Barceloneta.

18/05/2015 - El precioso solárium del CN Atlètic Barceloneta, con una vistas al mar privilegiadas, ha sido el marco en el que se ha llevado a cabo la presentación oficial de la Final Six de waterpolo masculino que se disputará en tan solo 10 días, del 28 al 30 de mayo, en las Piscines Bernat Picornell de la ciudad condal. En el acto no han faltado personalidades como el presidente de la entidad marinera, la Teniente de Alcalde Maite Fandos o el vicepresidente de la RFEN Pere Robert.
En un acto multitudinario, en el que se han dado cita medios de comunicación, jugadores, técnicos y políticos y personalidades del waterpolo y del deporte, la Final Six 2015 ha dado el pistoletazo de salida a 10 días vista para que el balón empiece a rodar en las Piscines Bernat Picornell. El aconteciento ha servido, además, para presentar los spots promocionales de la competición y de la Kids Final, torneo paralelo en el que participarán equipos de base de ocho países distintos y que cumplirá este año su segunda edición.
El primero en intervenir ha sido Julián García, presidente del CN Atlètic Barceloneta, anfitrión y vigente campeón de la Champions League de waterpolo: "Hoy es un día muy importante para mí, es de esos días en los que me siento orgulloso del CN Atlètic Barceloneta. Hace dos años la LEN nos lanzó un reto. Tenían un evento a la baja, en momentos difíciles, como era la Final Four y nos propusieron hacer un formato distinto que dejara de hacer un evento de club y pasara a ser un evento de ciudad. Lo aceptamos y gracias a la gran ayuda del Ajuntament de Barcelona y al buen trabajo de todos lo conseguimos y fue un éxito el año pasado. Queremos que en la presente edición se repita o incluso mejore la imagen del torneo".
En representación de la RFEN, el vicepresidente deportivo Pere Robert ha animado a todo el mundo a que acuda a la competición en pro de una organización que está trabajando a destajo: "Los jugadores están mentalizados en darlo todo en esta final y debemos tener presente que en este final de mes Barcelona será la capital del waterpolo mundial, una vez más habrá una competición del más alto nivel y, por lo tanto, invitamos a todos, a la ciudadanía, aún sabiendo la competencia que pueda haber (final Copa del Rey de fútbol) esperamos que las Piscines Picornell estén llenas para animar al equipo".
El secretario general para el Deporte de la Generalitat, Iván Tibau, ha alabado el trabajo del CNAB y de la ciudad para que vuelva a ser la capital del waterpolo continental: "Otro año más la LEN ha confiado en Barcelona y en el CN Atlètic Barceloneta para organizar este evento, lo que habla muy bien de la organización del año pasado y de todos los implicados en ella. No tengo duda de que cumpliréis el reto con nota y será un magnífico acontecimiento. Ya hicisteis historia el año pasado en una final memorable, por lo que no nos queda sino que volver a daros nuestro apoyo incondicional".
Maite Fandos, como teniente de Alcalde del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, ha reconocido la labor de la entidad marinera: "El Barceloneta es un club de referencia, centenario. Barcelona inspira mucho, creo que es un marco magnífico y además el deporte es una de nuestras máximas, somos un referente internacional. Estoy convencida de que en esta Final Six ganará el mejor, pero sobre todo ganará la organización y la ciudad".
Representando a la plantilla, que ha estado al completo dando apoyo al acto, el capitán Dani López-Pinedo ha comentado que "hay muchos recuerdos de la final que ganamos el año pasado. Lo normal sería quedarme con el momento de levantar la Copa, que fue inolvidable, pero quizás los instantes previos a disputar la final, el momento en el hotel, en la intimidad, aquello será imborrable. Nosotros planteamos la Final Six en darlo todo en cuartos de final, en luchar hasta el final y ofrecer espectáculo a los aficionados".

10 dies per la FINAL SIX de Barcelona (FCN)
La ciutat de Barcelona d'aquí 10 dies acollirà la Final Six de waterpolo. La màxima competició de clubs d'Europa tornarà a tenir com a seu les Piscines Bernat Picornell de la Ciutat Comtal i a 6 equips de waterpolo que jugaran per aixecar la copa de campions d'Europa. Avui el C.N.Atlètic Barceloneta, organitzador per segon any consecutiu de la Final Six, ha fet la presentació oficial de la competició. La seu del club ha estat l'escenari idoni per a presentar una competció èpica, emocionant i amb una lluita aferrissada de tots els equips per poder aixecar la copa de campions.
El President del club, Julián Garcia, ha presidit l'acte de presentació acompanyat per les autoritats esportives del país i la ciutat, com Maite Fandos, tinenta d'alcalde de qualitat de vida, igualtat i esports de l'Ajuntament de Barcelona; Ivan Tibau, Secretari General de l'Esport; Pere Robert, vicepresdent de la FCN i de la RFEN i Jordi Sans en representació de la UFEC. Tots ells han coincidit en destacar la competició i el gran valor que té una finalíssima com aquesta per la ciutat de Barcelona, per l'esport català i pel waterpolo de casa nostra.
El C.N.Atlètic Barceloneta jugarà el primer partit el dijous 28 de maig a les 19.30h contra el Szolnoki hongarès, a les 18.00 h hauran jugat el Eger contra el Jug Dubrovnic. El divendres 29 de maig serà el torn per les 5a i 6a plaça de la competició i per les semifinals a on el Primorje i el ProRecco estaran esperant als vencedors dels partits del dia anterior. La Final Six acabarà el dissabte 30 de maig a les 18.00 h es jugarà el partit pel bronze i a les 19.30 h la FINAL.

15/05/2015 - A menos de dos semanas para que dé comienzo la gran lucha por el cetro de campeón continental, pugna que se librará en las Piscines Bernat Picornell por segundo año consecutivo tras el éxito organizativo de la pasada edición, este próximo lunes día 18 a las 12.00h se celebrará la presentación oficial del evento en el solárium de las instalaciones del CN Atlètic Barceloneta, nuestro representante en una Final Six que promete emociones fuertes.
La final de la máxima competición de clubes europea dará el pistoletazo de salida el jueves 28 de mayo con la disputa, a las 18.00h, del partido entre ZF Eger (HUN) y JUG (CRO), mientras que el anfritrión iniciará a las 19.30h vs. Szolnoki (HUN). Si vence, se vería las caras con el Pro Recco italiano, el viernes a las 19.30h de nuevo. La gran final, el sábado 30 a las 19.30h.
El acto de presentación de este lunes en el CNAB contará con la presencia de la Teniente de Alcalde del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, Maite Fandós y en él se mostrará la imagen, el vídeo, los patrocinadores del evento, el programa de la competición, la campaña de ticketing y el equipo anfitrión.

El millor waterpolo de clubs, a la Final Six
Les piscines Bernat Picornell tornaran a acollir per segona vegada consecutiva la Final Six de waterpolo. L’Atlètic-Barceloneta defensarà el títol davant el seu públic del 28 al 30 de maig. El repte serà encara més complicat que l’any anterior. Per començar, els resultats de la Champions League no han estat tan bons com l’any passat; el factor-sorpresa ha desaparegut i tots els rivals no menysprearan el potencial dels amfitrions. No ajudarà a la seva difusió que en aquell cap de setmana es jugui la final de la Copa del Rei de futbol entre Barça i Athletic o la Final Four d’handbol amb la presència del FC Barcelona, especialment en l’aspecte de seguiment mediàtic. D’aquí que el suport de la família del waterpolo català a les graderies sigui més important que mai.
Tot i que encara no estan totes les places decidides, es preveuen tres jornades extremadament igualades i amb un grandíssim nivell de joc. La millor competició de clubs de waterpolo del món la podrem viure a casa, i amb un equip català defensant el títol. Difícil trobar-hi més alicients. A tot això, s’hi suma una iniciativa més que interessant que ja es va fer l’any passat: la Kids Final, en què 16 equips infantils d’Europa jugaran del 29 al 31 de maig una competició paral·lela.

Presentación en el Godó de la Final Six 2015
22/04/2015 - Este mediodía se ha presentado en el village del Trofeo Conde de Godó de Tenis en Barcelona la Final Six que se celebrará de 28 al 30 de mayo en las piscines Picornell, sede del triunfo del pasado año de los anfitriones del CN Atlètic—Barceloneta. A este evento ha asistido la plantilla al completo del CNAB, la teniente alcalde, Sra. Maite Fandos; el vicepresidente de la RFEN, Pere Robert; el presidente de la Federación Catalana, Enric Bertrán; y el presidente del club, Julián García.
Maite Fandos ha manifestado que el Ajuntament de Barcelona vuelve "a estar al lado del waterpolo, tanto en la Final Six de este año como en la organización de los Campeonatos de Europa de Waterpolo 2018" y también en la promoción de este deporte en los diferentes programas impulsados desde el consistorio.
Pere Robert, en calidad de vicepresidente deportivo de la RFEN, ha manifestado "que la Final Six y el Campeonato de Europa de Waterpolo del 2018 nos permitirán disfrutar del waterpolo de alto nivel en la ciudad de Barcelona".
Por su parte, el presidente de la FCN, Enric Bertrán, ha destacado el éxito que fue el año pasado y ha dicho que "seguro que este año volveremos a disfrutar de una competición que será un éxito deportivo y organizativo". El presidente del club anfitrión, Julián García, ha hecho un llamamiento para volver a llenar la piscina Picornell "para ver el mejor waterpolo del continente".
