Big clash in group C concludes 2014 World League action
Even though it's festivity time on the block, water polo will hit the spot. Round 3 of the FINA World League Group C is gearing up for the clash between Croatia and Montenegro. One of the classics will commence on Monday at 16.45 CET in Rijeka. The home of Primorje will entertain its fans for the first time in two years with a national match. In the end of March 2013 Croatia defeated Greece. Two seasons ago the Montenegrians stood in the way of the Super Final, but today the situation looks a bit different from the two sides' point of view.Croatia embarked with a nice and easy win against Turkey in Zagreb. In the second round they won in Montpellier against France, with whom they had a bit of a problem at the 2014 Europeans last summer in Budapest. The aim is clear, the margin is five, potentialy eight points after Monday's head-to-head clash. Italy is already at the Super Final, which will be hosted by them in the city of Bergamo. Ranko Perovic's side secured only one point from their first match last month in Budva where the Italians grabbed the victory after a penalty shoot-out.
"We won't have an easy game with Montenegro, nevertheless they are coming with an incomplete squad. Our mission is to win the match and keep marching on the way to Bergamo. It's still a long season ahead of us, so we must concentrate on winning match by match. They have problems with roster, we had them for the past two years. We were never asked any questions, but played as we best knew", said Croatia head coach Ivica Tucak at the official press conference.
There are fourteen players in action for the Croatian side, but one will not be in the lineup. That player is Paulo Obradovic due to a knee-problems. Although a man of the match in Berlin where Jug produced a turnaround against Spandau, Obradovic is not feeling very well after Croatian Cup final four tournament that was held the past weekend. Montenegrian squad, on the other side, faced a somewhat ammount of changes. The list of absent players is even bigger, so on Monday Antonio Petrovic, Mladjan and Nikola Janovic and goalie Zdravko Radic will miss the game. One may think that they already quitted operation Bergamo, but Montenegro should never be underestimated.
"Underestimate Montenegro could be lethal for us. We must focus on the match, but make whatever it is to secure a good victory for our side. Nobody said that they are weak without key players. Our quality in the pool must be proven", says Tucak.
