Thanks to a big 10-11 win over France the national team of Romania have won the annual Mithat Hantal memorial tournament in Istanbul, Turkey over the weekend. With the new head coach Dejan Stanojevic and the returned star centre forward Cosmin Radu on the roster the Romanians remained unbeaten in three days of action including the close victory over France on Friday. A game in which Radu returned in spectacular fashion scoring 5 goals to guide his team to victory. A 16-7 triumph over Belarus and 6-10 win versus hosts Turkey on Sunday brought the Romanians the encouraging first place on the way to the two-game European Championships qualification play-off round starting next weekend when they will host Great Britain in Bucharest. France, playing Malta for Budapest 2014 qualification, finished in second place beating Turkey (6-14) and Belarus (5-20) as well. The hosts claimed the third spot topping Belarus in a head-to-head battle on day 1. The Turkish side will now travel to Tbilisi, Georgia to take on the home team for European Championships qualification in leg 1 on Saturday.
