Jug clinches Croatian national title

Jug have won their first major trophy of the season. And what trophy. The reigning champs finally edged arch rivals Primorje Sunday at home in Dubrovnik 9-7 to win game 4 of the Croatian playoffs finals and clinch the national title, their fifth time in succession to successfully defend it and the eleventh national victory in team history. After falling to the Rijeka based side on two final games this season the revanche seems sweet as both the national championship and Champions League were the top-two priorities for Jug. In front of a capacity 2,200-crowd in Dubrovnik Jug came out strong dominating the first half after Sandro Sukno got Primorje on the scoreboard early in the game (1-1). Jug then walked away and was hard to catch up. Leading 6-2 in the third period Jug saw their opponents respond. Sukno, Daniel Varga, Petar Muslim and Denes Varga scored consecutive goals and suddently the game seemed up for grabs early in the fourth: 6-6. But Jug prooved to be resilient. Andro Buslje and Maro Jokovic got the home side up 8-6 and although Sukno brought Primorje back to 8-7 on a man-up possession it was Montenegrin veteran Nikola Janovic who sealed the deal. Converting a penalty shot the final score got on the board and celebreations got started. The foursome of Miho Boskovic, Janovic, Maro Jokovic and Andro Buslje netted a pair for Jug. Sandro Sukno ended up as to shooter for Primorje once again, this time scoring a game-high three goals.
