Shturm Ruza takes first step to LEN Trophy final

Russian title favorite Shturm 2002 Ruza has taken a big step towards the LEN Trophy final on Saturday. In the semis first meeting with fellow Russian competitor, Uralochka Zlatoust, Dutch international Iefke van Belkum led her team to 9-15 away victory scoring an astonishing nine goals. After a 2-1 opening quarter, the visitors from the city of Ruza stormed back and were not be stopped in the remainder of the match. With a home game on March 23 this year's Russian cup winners Shturm 2002 Ruza are likely to be the first side to qualify for the final (April 10 and April 24).

The LEN Trophy tournament is down to the last four teams. This weekend the first semi-final legs will be played in Russia and the Netherlands. Shturm 2002 Ruza, who will visit Zlatoust, are the heavy favorite in their all-Russian match-up with home side Uralochka. Both sides went head-to-head in the Russian cup final, last October, with Ruza clinching overall win by beating Zlatoust 14-5. The second semi-final first leg will be contested in the Dutch city of The Hague on Sunday. Widex GZC DONK faces familair resistance as Russian contender Izmailovo Moscow takes on the current Dutch league leaders. Both teams met in the group stage in the city of Bordeaux, France with an 11-all draw as result.
