Haba Waba 2014

Placed one above the other is approximately 2000 meters. Two and a half times the highest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa. It’s the 1380 children (representing 120 teams from all over the world) who will take part in the seventh edition of Haba Waba International Festival, held in Lignano Sabbiadoro from next 22nd to 29th of June with the organization of the Association Waterpolo Development. It’s the most important event of the World Under 11 water polo.
Even one behind the other in a single line, the 1380 participants make a remarkable streak: 415 meters, the equivalent of about 14 water polo fields. We would not be in the Valentino Gallo’s shoes when he will be in the Village Ge.Tur at Lignano Sabbiadoro (Italy) tp be the testimonial of the event. It will not be easy, even for a big man like him, staying with so many fans.
The mini-waterpolo players will come from these countries: Brazil, Croatia, France, Greece, Egypt, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and Hungary.
In the first edition of the Festival there were 32 teams, they’re almost quadrupled right now. The 1380 children will play 429 games in only 7 days. It’s Haba Waba,

France and Spain have won the seventh edition of Haba Waba International Festival, the most important event in the world of youth water polo, organized by Waterpolo Development, "supported by" FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation), LEN (European Aquatics) and FIN (Italian Swimming Federation). With a public of about 2,000 people, Club Natacio Barcelona (under 11 tournament) and the Cercle Nageurs de Marseille (tournament under 9) were awarded the title of 2014.

The Spanish team won in the final against Swim Academy Pagani by a score of 5-2, while the French team was victorious 7-2 over the defending champions of Mirmidoni Salerno in a re-match of last year. Both finals were led by referees Filippo Gomez and Dante Saeli, and have had the participation among others of Bartolo Consolo, chairman of the FINA's Commission for the Development of Water Polo, the testimonial of the event Valentino Gallo (with his mother Anna Fantini, "Golden Mama" of the event) and Gianni De Magistris, guest of honor.

According to tradition play-offs for third place were not played, which was awarded ex aequo to the other four teams of two tournaments: Blue Team Catania and Arechi Invicti (third team from Salerno in the top eight) in the Under-11 tournament, and Plebiscito Padova and Academija Kotor (Montenegro) in the Under 9 tournament.

Yann Vernoux (Marseille head coach) tossed in the pool after winning the under 9 tournament.

In the evening, in the Sports Hall of the Village Ge.Tur, the closing ceremony was held with the participation of all 120 participating teams. Lucio Pisani, president of the Waterpolo Development: "Everything went in the best way. The satisfaction of the participants was unanimous, the numbers are really a record."

The Festival, in fact, hosted nearly 3,000 people, 2,986 to be exact: 1,352 players, 194 coaches, 1,168 family members of the young athletes, 66 guests, 95 members of the staff and 21 referees.

¡Enhorabuena!
