Waterpolo World| Sunday 14 July 2013, 13:59 | Tim Hartog
The fourth edition of the Vodafone Cup is won by Montenegro. Thanks to a clear 10-3 victory over Germany on day 3 of the four-nation tournament the Montenegrins stayed undefeated and were crowned as the first non-Hungarian winners. Darko Brguljan, lefthander Ugo Crousillat and Aleksandar Ivovic scored two each for the winners while Heiko Nossek shot home a pair for the pointless German side. Hosts Hungary finished in third place falling to Greece 10-9 on Sunday. The Greek had the better start leading 0-2 after the first quarter. The hosts responded well though scoring the next four goals to take the lead 4-2 at half time. It wasn't until the final period before Greece emerged as game winners through a 1-4 run which included the game winning goal by Emmanouil Mylonakis with 1.10 remaining (9-10). Montenegro notched a striking big win over Greece in the first game of the 2013 Vodafone Cup in Budapest, Hungary. Both sides, who will meet again in the group stage of the upcoming World Championships in Barcelona, Spain kicked off the four-nation tournament on Friday and the Montenegrins led no doubt about the outcome right away taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Aleksandar Ivovic finished as top scorer netting three goals, well assisted by both Darko Brguljan and Mladan Janovic who scored two each. The following match saw hosts Hungary taking on Germany who did a pretty good job in low scoring first half as the scoreboard just displayed two goals at half time: 1-1. But the home side gave the fans something to cheer about in the thir and especially the fourth quarter running away through a 6-2 performance to win 9-3. Denes Varga and Marton Vamos scored two each to finish as the game's highest scorer.
