After securing their spots at the upcoming world championships in Barcelone, Spain both Canadian teams concluded a successful week in Calgary, Canada by winning the worlds qualification tournament. The women's squad did so by beating Brazil in the final 11-6. Leading just 5-4 at half time, the home side walked away in the second half under de guidance of top scorer Joëlle Bekhazi who netted four goals, three of which scored after the main break. Canada's men faced USA in the final and managed to defeat the Jovan Vavic coached side again, altough the margin was as close as it could get: 6-5. A seemingly comfortable 4-1 lead for Canada after two quarters played was slowly but surely trimmed down. USA's Scott Davidson scored once in the fourth quarter to bring his team within one and saw Team USA even getting a chance to equalise in the following offensive possession after Canada center Nicolas Constantin-Bicari got third personal foul but the home team withstood the surge to win the gold. In the other games head coach Ivan Perez and the Venezuela women took the tournament's third place beating Argentina 6-5 in Sunday's opening match while Brazil finished third in the men's section edging Argentina as well: 10-6.
