http://www.microplustiming.com/LENChampionsLeague/indexCL_web.php?cal=1

Favourites held to draw in Champions League qualifier openers

On opening day of a new Champions League season and the first of three days of competition in the first qualification round some nice results were posted already with the top spots in group B and C up for grabs after draws by the favourites on Friday. In Valletta it was Vojislav Cupic who saved the day for Romanian champion CSM Oradea by scoring the equaliser in the final second of the match against Sport Management Verona for the 11-11 tie; his only goal of the game. As Budva defeated home side Valletta 5-9, the Montenegrins are now leading the group after day 1.
Meanwhile in group C, played in Tbilisi, it was OSC Budapest who had to tie in their match-up with German squad Waspo 98 Hannover who came back nicely from trailing 4-1 at half-time and even led 6-7 with under 2 minutes remaining before Bence Batori netted the 7-7 equalising goal with 1.34 remaining after which both sides could not manage to score anymore. Marseille now leads group C after Friday's competition topping hosts Lokomotiv Tbilisi where even 2000 Olympics silver medal winner Revaz Chomakhidze played, 9-17 behind 5 goals from lefthander Ugo Crousillat.
In Herceg Novi home team Jadran did a nice job by beating Mladost 7-5 thanks to new acquisitions Nikola Janovic and Miroslav Radnic who scored 2 goals each to lead their team to a nice and important 2-goal win in the competitive group. Euro Cup champion Spartak Volgograd topped Montpellier 18-12 in a goal-scoring festival to also post a win on day 1 of the Champions League first qualification round.

Champions League season underway

A new Champions League season is already set to get underway on Friday with the first of three qualification rounds being played in three different cities. The draw produced a though group A, to be played in Herceg Novi, while in Valletta (group B) and Tbilisi (group C) favourite sides such as debuting Sport Management Verona, CSM Oradea and OSC Budapest will battle throughout the weekend to advance to round 2 and join the seven sides representing the wild-card holding federations.

The teams to qualify out of group A will be tough to call ahead of competition. Home team Jadran Herceg Novi, with the returned star Nikola Janovic highlighting this year's roster, tries to overcome reigning Euro Cup champion Spartak Volgograd, 7-time Champions League winner Mladost Zagreb, also having done some business in transfers this summer, and ambitious French runner-up Montpellier. People visiting the Skver pool in Herceg Novi will be up for a treat with all teams well into contention for a spot in round 2. In Malta meanwhile it seems debuting Italian side Sport Management Verona and Romanian champion CSM Digi Oradea are favourites to take 2 spots. It will be up to the combined home team of Valletta, full of Maltese players, to upset Budva. In Tbilisi, where group C is contested, Hungarian powerhouse OSC enjoys the favourite status. They will meet up-and-coming German contender Waspo Hannover, full of new players including Montenegro shooter Aleksandar Radovic, French champion Marseille with the returned centre forward Nicolas Constantin-Bicari from Canada, and home side Lokomotiv Tbilisi who are up for a tough task.

PR Champions League Day 9 (18/04/15)

http://arbitroswp.blogspot.com/2015/04/pro-recco-zf-eger-full-video-len.html

Olympiacos keeps hope alive

There is still hope for Olympiacos who got in the mix of teams running for the last Final Six berth after round 9 of the Champions League preliminary round. The Greek champions topped Radnicki 7-8 in Kragujevac on a winning goal by Ioannis Fountoulis to now trail current 2nd seed Eger, who fell to Pro Recco 11-9 on Saturday, by 'just' 3 points. However since Olympiacos holds the better goal-scoring difference in the two match-ups with Eger, an upset on the final day of the prelims could still happen if Eger loses to Barceloneta and Olympiacos manages to beat Brescia. On Saturday Olympiacos rallied late in the back-and-forth game against Radnicki to upset the home side. With 6 minutes to play Srdjan Vuksanovic scored a seemingly comfortable 7-5 goal for Radnicki. The final answer was for Olympiacos who saw Alexandros Gounas, Konstantinos Mourikis and ultimately Fountoulis scoring in the final 4 minutes to turn the score around. Usual top scorer Fountoulis and Serbian centre-back Nikola Radjen scored a team-high 2 goals each. Eger meanwhile put upa decent fight playing the unbeaten leaders of the group in their home but fell short a pair of goals, scored in the final period by Recco. The home team looked well underway to another clear win as they quickly established a 4-1 lead in the opening period. The response by Eger in the second term though was strong and a real game went on from there. But the best was saved for last by Recco. Unanswered goal by Pietro Figlioli and Aleksandar Ivovic in the final 4 minutes secured the 2-goal victory for Pro Recco who remain unbeaten and with no less than 9 different goal scorers, can keep confidence in their balanced attack.

In other results the top sides in group B made no mistake. Leading Szolnok held off Spandau at home 11-7 behind 4 goals from Stefan Mitrovic. Primorje won a high-scoring battle with Galatasaray. The game finished on a 12-goal 4th quarter in which the visitors from Istanbul netted 7 goals. However Primorje were not to be misled as they had already build a comfortable 11-4 up until then. Damir Buric scored a team-high 4 goals for the winners while Montenegrin international Vjekoslav Paskovic did so for Galatasaray. Also winning was Jug who rebounded from their 12-12 draw with Galatarasay in the previous round by topping Partizan 13-6 at home on Saturday. The home side walked away in the second quarter and did not looked back. Miho Boskovic (Jug) and Gavril Subotic (Partizan) earned top scoring honours for their respective teams. The final day of the prelims will be played on Saturday 2 May.

Champions League, Preliminaries, Day 8 – Summary

Eger takes huge step towards historic first F6

Eger (HUN) was the big winner of the round as its main rivals in the hunt for the last remaining berth – Olympiacos (GRE) and Radnicki (SRB) – both lost, so the Hungarian champion is on its way to a historic first appearance in the Final Six. In Group B the three-horse race for the top spot narrowed to two as Jug (CRO) failed to win in Istanbul.
With Recco (ITA) already having clinched the top spot and Barceloneta (ESP) enjoying a granted berth as host of the Final Six, only one spot remained on offer in Group A, but before Day 8 all the other four clubs had a chance to grab it. But this round cut the field: Brescia is out and Olympiacos is on the verge to bid farewell its Final Six dreams. Radnicki is still in the hunt but trails by four points to Eger (HUN).
The Hungarians won a crucial game against Brescia (ITA), thanks to their goalie, Branislav Mitrovic who came up with a very special performance: his saving percentage was 78%. The Serb’s 18 saves was paired some outstanding offensive play in front, resulting the decisive win.
Barceloneta came from behind (2-5) to beat Radnicki: the title-holders scored two goals in the last 64 seconds to break the deadlock after 7-7. Olympiacos did its best to end Recco’s magnificent march, the Greeks netted 4 connecting goals to take a 5-3 lead in the second period and was still 7-6 up before the final period. But Recco saved the best to the last quarter, destroying the hosts with 6 action goals.
In Group B Jug Dubrovnik produced a minor miracle by scoring twice in the last 21 seconds and saving the game to a tie against Galatasaray (TUR). The Turks, especially their Serbian-Montenegrin phalanx did a fine job this time, seemed the winner at 12-10 with 46 seconds to go, but Jug somehow climbed back to 12-12. However, by dropping two points Jug is out of the race for the top spot – though their Final Six berth is not in danger.
The battle for the first place is down to Szolnok (HUN) and Rijeka (CRO): both sides collected the three points in their respective away matches. The Croats didn’t leave any doubt who were the better side in Berlin, home of Spandau (GER). The Hungarians, led by Denes Varga (5 goals), had some headaches at the beginning in Belgrade as Partizan rushed to a 4-0 lead in five minutes, but Szolnok switched gears and responded with a 1-9 rolling and secured a calm finish to the match. Now they enjoy a 3-point lead and if the next round brings the expected results, they will have a showdown against Primorje in Rijeka on the last day of the prelims.

Eger makes strong push for Final Six

Plenty of action and excitement across Europe on day 8 of the Champions League preliminary round with ZF-Eger as one of the, if not the, winner of the day. The Hungarian champions held off Brescia 10-5 to take firm grip of 2nd place in group A and make a strong push for the last available Final Six ticket. Fellow competitior Radnicki meanwhile fell to defending champions Barceloneta 9-7 so that the Hungarian squad has good hands going into the final two preliminary rounds. In Hungary Balazs Erdelyi led the home team with 3 goals as they took control of the match in the second period and saw Brescia unable to turn the tide. In the third period the visitors crawled back to 5-4 but two straight goals by Balint Lorincz and Boris Vapenski had restored the order. Meanwhile in Barcelona Radnicki could not follow Eger to stay close in the battle for the last Final Six ticket. Barceloneta even overcame a 1-3 start to the match as Felipe Perone (3 goals), Albert Español (2) and Marc Minguell (2) led their team to a comeback which was completed in the final quarter by scoring two unanswered goals that would seal the 2-goal victory as Barceloneta overtook Radnicki for 3rd place in the group, although the Final Six hosts are automatically qualified for the final tournament. Still leading the group though are Pro Recco. The Italian favourites are already sure of the Final Six, more or less sure of the top spot in the group and thus directly semifinal qualification in Barcelona, and on Wednesday extended their unbeaten streak by topping Olympiacos in Greece 8-12. Despite a red-hot Blai Mallarach who produced 4 of his team's 8 goals, the visitors from Italy walked away from their opponents in the 4th quarter thanks to a big 1-6 run and therewith secured the seemingly comfortable but in any case, solid win. Matteo Aicardi and Filip Filipovic led the winners' team scorers with 3 each.

Also more than enough action in group B despite the fact that the top 3 teams and Final Six participants out of the group are already known. On Wednesday Jug needed a buzzer-beating goal from youngster Ante Viskovic to draw level with Galatasaray in Istanbul 12-12. Viskovic, who threw the ball away in the game versus Szolnok two weeks ago with just 5 seconds remaining after a free-throw whistle and therewith caused a penalty shot which lost the game for Jug, this time was on the positive side for his team in the dying seconds as he scored the goal that would avoid an upset but instead saved a point for the favourite Croatian side who now saw Primorje and Szolnok walking away in the standings. Primorje was not to be surprised in Berlin beating Spandau with ease, 5-15, while Szolnok trailed Partizan 4-2 at quarter-time but turned things around in the second period and walked away in the 4th term to gain a solid 7-13 victory to remain group leaders. Denes Varga was on fire scoring 5 goals for the visitors from Hungary. Dusan Mandic and young centre-back Nikola Jaksic netted 3 each for Partizan.

Day 9 of the prelims will be played on Saturday 18 April with the race for the last Final Six ticket out of group A possibly to be decided already.
